Hello Gamecocks!!!
I come in peace!:):)
The Pirates plan on bringing a fair amount of fans to the opener in February. This will be my first time there and I was wondering how things are ran.
We start tailgating right next to our stadium about 2-3 hours before the game. Curious to see how you guys do it and/or if you could point us to a good spot. How does your stadium rules work? We have a jungle in the outfield that allows people to come and go, (Thats when I refresh my beverage), but our stadium is enter once only. Is yours the same?
Also, we are booked at the Marriott close to the baseball field. Where do we need to park/tailgate and do your lots charge a price?
Finally, what are some good bars/restaurants for the post game activities.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Welcome Pirate.
First...parking is somewhat limited...only Gamecock Club Members get right in front of the ballpark on the paved lot. So, if you get there early, you can park on the side of the streets or one of the very few small fields...all free.
You can tailgate of course, just don't get out of line, pickup your trash....and the ballpark is entrance once only. Get you some mini bottles if need be, buy a coke, and go to the restroom.
Afterwards, there are plenty of bars....just ask which way to 5 points (bars, dance clubs, college scene), or the Vista (mainly just bars, little bit older crowd, pricier). They are both within 2-3 miles.
Enjoy Columbia...and GO COCKS!!:swingcoc:

Welcome, piratefreak. I'm a USC alum, but I did some grad work at ECU and really like G-vegas, NC and the whole central-eastern NC area. Good luck on the diamond. We're also looking forward to hooking back up with y'all for some pigskin contest in the future.

Thanks in advance for any advice! Welcome piratefreak! I assume someone will move this over to The Sarge soon...
Tailgating - I usually solo the games, but others will have more info. The parking lots to the NNW always have attendents/gates - not sure if it's paid/GCC parking or not. Never stopped to ask...guess I should! There's some grassy areas west of those that a lot of folks tailgate at, as well as a lot NNW across Heyward St, along Marion. No charge to park there - the only paid parking I've actually seen is along S. Marion in front of private homes - usually 10$ a vehicle. Unless I get the kids to come along, I ride on 2 wheels and find parking easily.
There are 3 gates - one off S Marion and 2 from the North off Heyward St. - I've seen games where they weren't manned past the 4th inning - and I know folks step out the gates to burn one (The Sarge is smoke free...).
There are bleachers over (actually past) 1st base that are GA - all other seats are reserved.
It's limited info - but hopefully someone else will fill in the numerous holes. I'm psyched beyond belief, and my better half is already looking at me sideways....

Greetings, friend! It looks as if others have handled the parking, etc. for you, so let me direct you to some good restaurants in the area. A combination restaurant/bar is Jillians in the Vista. From the Marriott, just go to Assembly Street, turn left, go to Gervais, turn right and Jillians is a block or two on the left.
Also in the Vista is Damons (the place for Ribs), Ruth's Crist Steak House (in the new Hilton Hotel) and a number of other places for food and fun. These places are priced with the visitor in mind, though, so if you want good food at reasonable prices, let me recommend my favorite steak house and seafood houses:
1) Stesks--The Texas Roadhouse--To me, they have the best-flavored steak I've ever eaten. It's so good that you don't have to put steak sauce on it! Their prices, too, are reasonable at $14.95 for a 12 oz Ribeye.
They are located off I-26 just off Lake Murray Blvd, about 8 miles west of downtown.
2) Seafood---Bonefish Grill......Just off Bower Parkway not far from the Roadhouse;
3) Misc....Copper River Grill.....Two doors down from the Bonefish.
I know you're staying downtown, so you may prefer some of those restaurants. They're all good, but a better value for your money can be found in the Harbison/Columbiana Centre mall area where all of these other restaurants are.
Hope you have a safe trip down and enjoy SC!

Seems like as good a time as any for my first post... I DEFINITELY remember the SuperRegional against you guys, with the train in the outfield- it was actually my first YardCocks experience, taken in from the top of the softball field, picnicing with a girl a day after returning from Hilton Head. I even got a Home-Run ball from BP! I'm considering driving down from DC for this series (though I'll spring for better seats now that I'm graduated with a job). GO COCKS!

Should be a good series to start the season. Welcome to Columbia!! There is a lot to do here. I recommend the Vista but 5 points is a college hang out and a lot of folks like that area. Welcome and have a safe trip!! T

What times do your tailgate lots open up?

I agree with everything said except for the entrance once only policy...that isn't true, at least in my experiences. I have gone out...then gone back in...drank a beer or two...came back in. They don't mind.

What times do your tailgate lots open up?Well, they don't really open. You just find a spot your car will fit in. Go from there.

The longest homerun I have ever seen hit was by an ECU Pirate. We played a series against you guys every year and a guy named Cushner( sp but I think he played 3rd base in the mid 90's) hit a ball off one of our pitchers, not me this time, at your park that cleared the pine trees and the tailgating area in left center field and landed in the highway. That was a blast I will never forget. Ball was still on the way up when it cleared the pine trees. We also partied our a$$ off in Greenville but that should be implied.

hope you enjoy your visit. should be a good game.
Id suggest going to 5 points if you're 25 years or younger. Or the vista if you 26 or older.
In 5 points:
Big Party Bars- Red Hot Tomato, Locals, Sharkys
Chiller Bars- Delaneys, Beys, or Speak Easy.
Quiet Bars- Yesterdays (also has good food and is more of a restaurant)
or if you're looking for 18 year old ass, Jungle Jims.
In Vista
Big Party-Gillians, Liberty Tap Room, Sunami, The Flying Saucer
Chiller Bars/Restaurants- Saki Tumi, Mellow Mushroom (good pizza)
Quiet Bars- Blue Martini
Make sure you have a DD. Go Cocks!

I'm hoping for a great series. We are ranked #24 by BA, but not in the top 25 by anyone else. I see you guys are ranked high in most polls.
We will have plenty of speed and power. Our defense will be a strength. Pitching is our biggest question mark. Our Friday starter, TJ Hose is our best. He is coming of a tremendous Cape Cod summer. But after him everyone is a question mark.
Pre-season polls mean nothing, so I can't wait to see it settled on the field.
Good luck!
GO PIRATES!!!!

Pirate, I don't need to tell you how insignificant polls/predictions are. It's all up to the guys on the field. I can't say I hope you win, but I do hope the series is a good one!
Again, have a safe trip down and a good time while here!
