COLUMBIA -- Don't be surprised if University of South Carolina coach Dave Odom starts using his timeouts more liberally -- as he did 50 seconds into Saturday's 78-70 loss at Kentucky.
When his team is struggling, Odom said he likes to see it work its way through "that little period" of trouble when a foe makes a run.
"I don't think a coach can bail a team out of every situation. I think the team has to do that. As you get older, you should be able to do that. Our team has not," Odom said.
"We haven't been able to do that. so I probably need to step in and give them some help at that time and get them back to structure. My preference is not to do that. I think you grow more when you do it on your own."
But he said Tuesday that "maybe I ought to call a timeout (and say), 'Look guys, we're on top. This is what we're going to do. Don't worry."
A must-win? -- Forward Dominique Archie was asked whether tonight's game with Georgia was a must-win given USC has lost four of its first five SEC games and is 0-2 at home in league games already.
"Every game is a must-win," he said. "I guess you could say this one is. It's a big game. We've lost two close games, and we just need to get back in our heads we can win."
Five straight -- Georgia is seeking its fifth straight win over USC. The Bulldogs haven't won five in a row against an SEC foe since beating Ole Miss five times from 2000 to 2004. And the last time Georgia managed that against USC was from 1958 to 1960 when the Gamecocks were in the ACC.
Series sweep -- The team that has won the first game between USC and Georgia has also swept the regular-season series in each of the five years, with Georgia winning the last two years as well as 2002-03. USC swept the series in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
