DAYTONA, Florida (Ticker) - Kurt Busch (http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/nextel/drivers/156/;_ylt=AmBmOeqPKg1VZI0tO9BKgljfv7YF) "won" the pole for Saturday night's Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway.
Busch drew the lucky flag out of the Budweiser bottle in the blind draw for the pole position.
It will be Busch's fifth career start in the Budweiser Shootout, a non-points All-Star race that features the previous season's pole winners and past Budweiser Shootout winners.

The race will feature a record field of 23 drivers and the current generation race car, previously known as the Car of Tomorrow.

"I think it's going to be an interesting race," Busch said. "I'm glad to be a part of it because you get to run with a tight group of competition. These guys are tough and you get to learn with this new car."

That Shootout was very entertaining. I'm ready to see the real deal. Dale Jr. dominated, leading most of the way and pulling out a win.

Jr. was genuinely shocked and thrilled to be in victory lane. It was cool to see how happy he was. The crowd was definately still behind him.

He might have hit someone if it wasn't Junior that won...he and Jr. are pretty good friends.

How bout that 88 car! Led the most laps in the history of the event and did it in his first race with a new team. Is it just me, or did I hear all the other drivers in the garage collectively say OH S**T! We are all about to see what we would have already if Dale Sr had not passed away. That is exactly how good June Bug can be driving for an owner that is totally committed to winning races. Get used to seeing the 88 crew in victory lane. it's going to happen a whole lot this year.

No, it didn't have anything to do with anything NASCAR officials said to Stewart. The reason he was happy for Jr is because he is probably Jr's best friend in NASCAR. Plus the fact that in his first race in a Toyota, he ran VERY well. If "Smoke" has shown us only one thing since leaving open wheel cars for Cup cars, it's that NASCAR officials don't scare him one iota. Good or bad, that's just the way it is.

What a great race last night, Jr. looked pretty good out there. Hopefully we will see racing like that on Sunday.

That race erased any doubt that Jr is the best restrictor plate driver in the business. Anybody can get a run and draft to the front of the pack, but it takes major talent to stay up there.

I heard that Michael Moore's conservative counterpart is actually doing a documentary on it entitled......Daytonahype: The Day 88 won the Shootout

And you think us liberals are loony.....here you are talking conspiracy and NASCAR. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Im so glad that Junior won the race, it shows that he is going to have a better season now that he is on a better team, Nascar is definitly not all about the drivers, you can be a gresat driver but have a bad team and not do good ( as Junior did last season), But i think this season will be a whole lot better for Junior, i just gotta get used to looking for my man in the # 88 car instead of the red # 8

Yeah, its hard to get used to the 88...it makes me sick about everytime I see KK in the 9 and that stinkin 8 car...oh well, at least he's in winning mode now. :) Good luck to Jr. in this season.
