There's quite a bit of smoke coming from several LSU message boards indicating that QB Ryan Perrilloux has left the Tigers football team.

While I have to urge a HUGE grain of salt, the reports go something like this....

Due to an ongoing dispute between Perrilloux's mother and LSU -- potentially stemming from Ryan's mother trying to shake down the school -- the projected starting quarterback has cleaned out his locker and left the team. Perrilloux reportedly missed a team meeting this week, but his absence is clouded by reports that Perrilloux was attending his father's funeral.

The only aspect that does not seem to be in dispute is that Ryan Perrilloux has cleaned out his locker.

WDSU-TV in New Orleans is reporting the rumors that Perrilloux quit the team, but -- so far -- there's no comment from Perrilloux or the Tigers.

This could be exactly what the rumors say it is, or it could be a confused kid who just lost his father acting out.

Either way, I think we're nearing some kind of school record on off-the-field headlines.

UPDATE

I'm hearing a little more backstory now (which is starting to make this rumor seem more credible, but -- again -- I cannot confirm just yet because no one will comment officially)...

Apparently Perrilloux and the coaching staff have an understanding about certain things that QB must do to stay in LSU's good graces. This all stems from his previous track record. Allegedly broke this agreement 2-3 times in the last two weeks and was threatened with suspension or outright suspended from the team. It is believed that one of the issues was class attendance, missing a team appointment and the other was related to him going somewhere he wasn't supposed to be. So... the coaches met with Perrilloux and the suspension talk came up. This conversation apparently led to Perrilloux's mother threatening to pull the QB off the team. Very shortly thereafter, Perrilloux's father left passed away and the QB has not been with the team on campus since then.

That's the update. Still looking for some confirmations, although I understand that everyone at LSU is hesitant to say anything about the situation given the emotions of all involved as well as Perrilloux history of brush-ups with the coaching staff. There may not be an officially comment until Les Miles decides what that comment will be.

I hope the kid comes back. He could make it as a backup in the NFL (kind of like Anthony Wright's career has been), IMO. Sorry for his loss, but he's got to keep marching forward.

I am hearing from good sources that Ryan P is scheduled to return BUT he still has some stuff to do to get back into their good graces

This guy has 9 lives and is on number 7 or 8

Man, I just can't get enough of D-1 athletes not appreciating their good fortune and wanting to piss it away.

To be fair, he just lost his father.

Understood and that's a shame, but what about the previous 6 or 7 lives he's used up?

I'm sorry he lost his father, that's difficult for anyone to endure.

However, I do want to remind everyone of his attitude - this is the kid who came into the college ranks saying he was going to win 4 Heismans. That attitude has no place and should not be tolerated by the coaches.

I hope he can pull it together, and I for one would like to see him here in Cola.

Listen, no one knows his past better than myself. I got to see him and his "possee" when East St. John beat my friends brother in a game.

I am just stating why he is "missing" right now. Not making excuses for past problems

Just short of stabbing someone on camera is the only way Perrilloux gets kicked off the team!! You have to remember it is all about wins and losses and they need him in a big way after all of the talent they lost. If he was a 2nd/3rd team senior guard he would be sent packing if he pulled all of the stuff that Ryan has.

I hope he gets it turned around because he has a CRAZY amount of talent.

Big news out of LSU today. WWL's Deke Bellavia says he has learned that Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been indefinitely suspended from the football team.

"As of right now, Ryan Perrilloux is not on the LSU Football Team. Whether or not he will be let back on the team or not... we hope to find that out in the next few days," reported Bellavia.

Perrilloux allegedly missed classes and team activities in the past few weeks.

So far, LSU officials have had no comment. Coach Les Miles was expected to have a news conference today concerning other matters, but has canceled the event.http://wwl.com/Bellavia:--Perrilloux-suspened-indefinitely/1674853

LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been indefinitely suspended from the football team, the school announced Monday. "Ryan has been suspended indefinitely due to his failure to follow team rules," said LSU Head Football Coach Les Miles. Miles said Perrilloux's status for spring practice is uncertain at this time and that he would not comment any further on the situation.
LSU starts spring practice on Friday, February 29th. WWL Radio (New Orleans) reported that Perrilloux missed classes and team activities in recent weeks. Ryan Perrilloux's biological father did recently pass away; not to be insensitive, but sources tell 9SPORTS that is no excuse for Perrilloux's behavior. The two had basically no relationship and Ryan had been raised by someone else since the age of seven. Perrilloux's missteps also started long before his father's passing.
In November of 2006, Perrilloux was accused of using a fake $20 bill to buy gas. From there, his name was mentioned in a federal probe dealing with counterfeit money. He was never charged. In May of 2007, Perrilloux received a summons for using a fake ID to get into a Baton Rouge casino. LSU suspended Perrilloux and did not allow him to work out or participate in team activities. In October of 2007, Perrilloux allegedly is involved in a fight at Varsity night club. He was later cleared of any criminal charges. Perrilloux then sat at home as his Tigers won a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Perrilloux was all set to take over LSU's starting quarterback duties for the next seasons, but that obviously is in jeopardy again. The East St. John product has always had incredible talent, the type of talent that could land him in the NFL. However, his decision-making and the company he keeps have likewise been very questionable.

Apparently, his situation is such public knowledge on campus, that Miles had to do something about it. We suspend players for actual football games here for missing class, I guess we'll see what the difference is (or similarity) in discipline styles between Coach Spurrier and Les Miles on this one.

If LSU loses Perriloux they'll either be starting an Ivy League transfer in Andrew Hatch or a redshirt freshman in Jarrett Lee.

Its not a Spurrier policy to suspend players for missing classes. The AD put those rules in. Players must attend class to play. Not saying Spurrier dosent agree with it, it was just the AD's chocie!

Something similar to Jimmy Clausens announcement of winning 4 national championships and getting out of a stretch hummer with diamond studded earrings.

Not much doubt in my mind that he'll be back for Fall camp. Miles is a wins/losses guy, and he knows which QB provides his best chance at winning.

Suspended LSU QB Perrilloux not expected at spring practice

Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=176394) is not expected to be on the field when the Tigers open spring practice Friday.

Perrilloux was suspended indefinitely last week by coach Les Miles, who would say only that the 21-year-old had violated unspecified team rules.

The expected absence was announced Tuesday by LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette.

Perrilloux, widely expected to take over the starting job following Matt Flynn (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=146744)'s departure from the national championship team, missed a mandatory meeting meant to set the tone for the offseason, his high school coach, Larry Dauterive, has said. Dauterive also said Perrilloux apparently missed classes to attend his father's funeral but didn't notify his coaches.

Dale Perrilloux Sr. died Feb. 7. And Perrilloux has since returned to school, Dauterive said.

"An assistant coach tells me he's doing fine, going to class, making his grades, doing everything he's supposed to," Dauterive said. "We'll just have to wait and see if coach Miles will give him another chance."

This is at least the third time Perrilloux has been suspended by Miles.
