Sucks for Colquitt, but I'm glad to see Fulmer sticking to his guns and holding him accountable.

I've wanted to stop facing Colquitts for a while now and of course what he did was wrong but that sucks for him.

He is one hell of a player. I sure hate to see him going through this. It looks like he's certainly had his chances though. No one to blame but himself.

Maybe I'm a tad confused as to how this works: how can he play when he doesn't have a scholarship? If he pays for the rest of his schooling, then he can still play football?

I agree with usc90grad. It sounds like he has a problem. Four alcohol-related incidents in six months? That's excessive.

He's off scholarship, but it doesn't mean he's kicked off the team, unless stated.

And because he has no scholarship, does he have to pay for the rest of his schooling? Or can his scholarship be reinstated?

his fam has $ from what i read so the scholie money is merely a formality

As far as he's concerned he has to pay for the rest of his schooling. However, Fulmer can choose to reinstate his scholly at any time.

That's what I figured. I knew the Colquitts have given UT a ton of money over the years. While this kid seems to have a problem with the hooch, I still think he should be kicked out...or only be allowed to play if he successfully completes rehab. He could have killed somebody and that is scary.

ShutTheSuccop
02-19-2008, 03:27 PM
no doubt that Fulmer would not have stripped the schollie should he have believed that Colquitt's family could not pay...he is sending a message, a message that I wish Spurrier would send.

Its just simple case of parents not raising their kids right, not teaching them values and to respect themselves as well as other people.. JMO

did anybody look at the perrilloux article just under the colquitt article. i though perrilloux was kicked off the team. that article says he was just suspended indefinately. big difference between the two. if this is true, you can bet he will be suited up when they come to columbia.

That was an old article about Perriloux. He was kicked off LSU's team and is now playing for a Division 2 school somewhere in Florida I think.

I wonder if the punishments ever been that severe for any star on UT

By the same token, plenty of students get DUIs all the time and never come close to getting kicked out of school. This is a legal issue in my eyes, not an academic issue. Too often people try to combine the two.

That isn't true at many schools these days including several SEC schools now like UGA where alcohol related arrests can get you suspended kicked out after just 2-3 incidents

I'm just saying...when I was at Carolina I probably had 4-5 friends get DUIs and into other alcohol related issues (5 Points & Vista are a bitch) and nothing came of it but their own personal legal suffering. Unless a person was cited by the campus police, it seems like it would be pretty hard to know about them by the university...unless they are an athlete of course.

I just don't personally believe the two should have anything to do with each other. The grades you make, study habits you have, classes you attend, etc etc can't really be compared with the personal choices of another person...everyone is different. I know a guy who partied 6 nights a week in college and graduated with high honors. Hell, I partied/barred 5 nights a week and finished just shy of honors.

The guy just had a hit & run while DWI

How many drinking incidents is this for him?

What does he get? a 7th chance? What point is enough for you?

Oh I wasn't excusing his actions...what needs to happen here is serious punishment laid down by the law and then action from Fulmer. If he is constantly getting into trouble and it is interfering with his responsibilities as a player or student, then action must be taken.

I was just initially commenting on the fact that a single DUI or alcohol related incident shouldn't always provoke the "necessary" actions of a school board or sometimes athletic program. It is all on a case by case situation but I guess I was also trying to make the point of how it is much different when an athlete gets cited compared to a normal student- one will make headlines and one faces chance of academic punishment the most.
