I got to thinking and as much as I loved to watch boxing, it just isn't the same any more. The whole system has been corrupt for far too long and it has just all become political. A lot of the current, former, and potential boxers (Tyson, maybe Mayweather, etc) are starting to move towards MMA just because raw talent and success in the sport can get you further and make you more money.
Do you think that Kimbo would've had a chance (even if he specialized in boxing) of making it to participate in a big fight for a good payout if he was in boxing? I don't think so.
Boxing really had a chance to make a name for itself and gain more respect for the sport when the original UFC went down the drain...but now, with all of the different MMA organizations...is boxing a dying sport?

I think that if Boxing wants to make a comeback, it has got to unify belts, etc. I like the UFC b/c I know that it is the cream of the crop with regards to MMA. I watch boxing and I have no idea what the fighters are fighting for...
I think that Boxing will become a mainly amateur sport as most of the big name up and coming pugilists will begin to lean towards MMA...

Boxing's will always have huge marquee events, but as it stands now non PPV I'd assume MMA has higher viewing. I know MMA/UFC has beaten out an MLB playoff game in viewers. There is room for both. It seems like PPV should kill both sports. Luckily MMA right now only has one big dog in the UFC, if there were others that had more than one PPV a month I'd be broke. I haven't bought a boxing PPV in a while, thankfully HBO/Showtime show the fights for free the following weekend. I stopped buying PPV's after I took the Mike Tyson is "finally back" bait about 5 times.

Yeah boxing has to many sanctioning bodies, and to many weight classes. I like watching guys like Ricky Hatton, Kelly Pavlik, and Jermain Taylor when he's aggressive.

MMA has better knock outs, but when they put two evenly matched fighters there isn't enough action. They get too defensive. If it's lopsided talent wise it's fun to watch. MMA fights also have a greater chance of ending in less than 60 seconds which means the PPVs aren't worth the money.
I still prefer boxing. It's a shame though that there are only a few guys at the top of the sport that actually make real money. There's no league like the UFC, it's all self promotion. UFC does a good job introducing new fighters and publicizing them to grow their sport. In boxing you don't get to know a fighter until he's fought 30 matches and makes it to PPV.

It really is hard to top a good boxing match as far as action. I believe there is a great fight this weekend in Marquez and Vasquez. And anyone not familiar with jiu jitsu and wrestling will probably find a lot of technical ground fights pretty boring, but a pure standup fight is always fun to watch.

Don King killed boxing's credibility back in the 90s.

I prefer boxing to MMA. I guess it's just what ever floats your boat. Boxing is a more skilled sport overall. With MMA, anyone can choke someone out or cause the other to submit. It does take skills in MMA too, but the "wow" factor isn't there for me. If I hear people talking about an upcoming MMA fight that is big, I'll watch it over the internet. I stopped paying for boxing fights a while back. Especially since I can usually watch them for free online. I just like fighting period.

Prefer boxing, but it needs a lot of help right now.

Boxing was great back when the best fought each other. Now it doesn't happen anymore.
And I don't want to pay 30 dollars to watch a PPV where a guy taps out in thirty seconds. At least boxing goes 12 rounds

I don't really enjoy heavyweight fights, but welterweight and featherweight fights are fun as hell to watch. I really enjoy watching Manny Paquiao. That dude brings it every match! Much more fun to watch than MMA. Will watch MMA over heavyweight fight, though.

I love both. Tough question.
The biggest names still fight in boxing ie: Pavlik/Taylor Delahoya/Mayweather etc...
MMA is great because it can end at any moment in any way. Boxing does not have finishes like the first Corrales v Castillo very often. I see guys losing all the way and then win by submission all the time in MMA and that is very intriguing to me.

Boxing has lost it's luster for me. MMA is packed full of top notch athletes. I just wish they would go back to the no-rounds format.

Yes but that is soooo rare these days in boxing. The best names of MMA fight all the time.
