I said that would happen last week. What he did was pretty severe. Especially since he's done it at more than one school now.
Sucks because now we have to compete with LSU and IU for a coach.

A school investigation last year revealed that Sampson and his assistants had made more than 100 impermissible calls, but the school had previously contended that the violations were secondary in nature. Sampson was already on NCAA probation when he took the Indiana job for making 577 improper phone calls between 2000 and 2004 while the coach at Oklahoma.
You'd think he would've learned his lesson the first time around.

so, you can have a coach who throws chairs across the court in open public, a coach that hits his players, and a coach that verbally abuses the heck out of kids, and hes cool, but make phone calls and you get fired.
577 illegal phone calls to recruits. he should not only be fired but never allowed to coach again. His illegal activity is most of the reason why Indiana is a national power again in basketball and that is not fair.

The NCAA doesn't car eabout chairs, etc. They do care when you break their rules.

and lets see ... Bobby Knight - 0 NCAA Violations ... Sampson - 577 NCAA Violations (found out)

of course.....but they'll make it public tomorrow....and his dumbass deserves it. IU were fools to hire him to begin with. Now, do y'all think THEY would go after Grant?

I think that they would go after somebody better.
Like John Calipari, Billy Donovan,or Rick Barnes, etc.
But it wouldnt be terrible if they got Grant.

Aren't you glad McGee wasn't that interested in taking him away from Oklahoma when Eddie left? That would have been very bad for us. I will take 7 mediocre years with no NCAA sanctions any day

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Sampson our 1st or 2nd choice before McGee hired Odom? I believe we went after him pretty hard.
I agree...thank goodness we didn't get him.

You have been watching too much TV. The media puts anything Coach Knight does bad on the front page. He does more good for people in one week than a Dean Smith will do in a lifetime. You'll not see the good that Knight does ever reported because he wants it that way.
Btw, Dean Smith had the media and half the country snowed. He was an ass. He just knew when the camera was rolling.

I could be wrong about Dean because I've only met him once, but about two months before he retired I met Coach Smith randomly in an airport. He was by himself, no media, no one else around. I talked with him briefly, he was absolutely one of the nicest guys.

If I remember correctly I think Sampson was one of the coaches that McGee had a meeting with, but he wasn't in the top 3.

Sampson resigned this afternoon and will get $750K. Not too shabby for a rule breaker.
