The Frost brothers are headed to Christ Church Episcopal School.
Don Frost, Riverside’s athletic director and football coach for the past six years, was hired as football coach at Christ Church on Thursday.
He’ll replace Ashley Haskins, who resigned after compiling a 56-82 record in 14 seasons.
Larry Frost, a former Greenville High coach and an assistant under his brother at Riverside for the last three years, will become Christ Church’s offensive coordinator.
“We basically told them it was gonna be a package deal for us,” Don Frost said. “It was either both of us or neither of us.”
Don Frost led Riverside to a 26-39 record in his six seasons, including 8-5 and 9-3 the last two years, respectively. In 2006, the Warriors won a playoff game for the first time in 16 years and advanced to the third round.
In 2007, they were co-champions of the Peach Blossom AAA Region, the first such title for the program in 17 years.
“They’ll be fine at Riverside, and we still love Riverside, and we always will,” Don Frost said. “It’ll hold a special place in my heart and Larry’s heart. Those kids are fantastic; the parents are fantastic, and the administration’s been just great.
“This was just an opportunity that presented itself. This is gonna allow me to retire from public education and still coach.”
Don Frost said he has one year remaining before he can retire from public education, and he will buy out the year. Larry Frost is already retired and had been working on year-to-year contracts.
“This was something I couldn’t pass up and Larry couldn’t pass up,” Don said. “This will probably be our last stop.
“We’re just really excited about going to Christ Church. The facilities are top-notch. The people have been extremely gracious. We’ll come in there and get it rolling.”
Riverside principal Andrew Crowley said his school would begin looking immediately for replacements.
“They’ve done a tremendous job for us,” Crowley said. “The relationships that they have cultivated with our student-athletes is phenomenal. We’re just proud of them, and we’re happy that they’ve gotten an opportunity to do something that they want to do. We hate to see them go, but with change comes opportunity, and that’s a good thing.”
Crowley said he did not know whether the school would be looking for one person or two to fill the football coach and athletic director positions.
Christ Church also announced that R.J. Beach would take over as athletic director July 1. He will replace Travis Perry, who is leaving to serve as defensive coordinator at Greer High. Perry had been Greer’s head football coach before coming to Christ Church.
“Christ Church obviously has had an outstanding athletic program for a long time,” Beach said. “Having the opportunity to be the athletic director here is a position I’m very proud of.”
Beach will continue as coach of the school’s boys basketball and golf teams. He has led the basketball team to seven region titles in 12 seasons and has guided the golf team to three state championships.
