View Full Version : I have been a victim of Credit Card Fraud - My first time
Wow
Talk about one of those "I can't believe it happened to me" moments
Whoever it was....had only in the last month bought some small web-site tools off foreign sites AND then went to emusic.com and others for his music needs. Then he went to a few other wine places online and ordered foriegn wine to be delievered to several locations through the US and Europe
I really, really, really, really wish I could get my hands around this mother*******s neck
But, it will be refunded but a pain to deal with

Happened to me about a year ago for the first time...
Some POS went to freaking WALMART in Mississippi and somehow used "my debit card"...about 700 dollars in charges
Sure, they refunded my money, but it just pisses me off...
My bank said they had to wait for the transaction to clear to Walmart first...I was like "hold on a minute...Walmart fails to do their part (i.e. either show ID, or force the person to enter a PIN) yet they get their money? Why not tell Walmart 'you know what...since your employees didnt do what they're supposed to, its up to YOU to track down the guy and get your money'"
But, no...instead we let the transaction clear, i get refunded, and the guy (or girl) gets away...

Someone stole my wife's credit card number about 2 years ago. It happened at a clothing store at the mall. The clerk...some young kid...swipped her card...said it didn't work and swipped it again.
We later found out the 2nd swipe was into a card reader that captured the card number. She ran up about $5,000 in purchases at Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc...before the credit card company caught on (they were very slow in respoding in my opinion).
We weren't liable for a penny though.

Happened to my wife 8 years ago........luckily we found the guy (Convicted Him) and he got time in Federal Prison in 2002. (what a headache)
the dumbass actually signed his real name to one of his charges at a dentist office and we were able to track the guy down.
i got a call from my bank a few years back saying that they believe my card had been hacked into and my informatoin stolen ... so i had it shut down and got a new one ... never had any charges actually made to my account tho

I'm Todd Davis, CEO of LifeLock. My social security number is 457-55-5462. Yes, that really is my social security number. No I'm not crazy. I'm just sure our system works. Just like we have with mine, LifeLock will make your personal information useless to a criminal. And it's GUARANTEED."

actually he had his identity stolen a couple months after the commercial's started running...some guy in Texas took out a $500 loan from a check cashing place. Well, the company didn't run a credit check (which would've revealed the fraudulant activity) before giving out the loan...so LifeLock couldn't prevent anything. Irony at its best!

you know i was wondering about that, you would think a certian type of person would see that as a challange, and do it just to prove it could be done

I mean that isnt LifeLock's fault, its the company's. Im surprised Todd doesnt own that little company in Texas now after that one.
My dad actually got the plan as well, and I believe there is a way to set up a whole family and you get cheaper rates the more people you put on there. I have gotten less junk mail and stuff like that, which is very nice.

Sorry to hear that Spur. I think after reading some of these things, I'm going to investigate the Lifelock deal. $110 bucks a year or $10/month sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I'll read more about this if I decide to do it, but since you seem to know a good bit about it, I'll ask you before I read an hour's worth of stuff:
Let's say I do this Lifelock service, is that like a credit freeze where I have to call them and lift the service temporarily when I go for a credit limit raise, or car loan, etc?
If so, I can handle that, I'm just curious.

how do we cut out the junk mail?
Here's a good place to start. I did it a few years ago and the junk mail has slowed down a lot.

Also if you get a lot of convenience checks from your credit card company...I used to get them several times a week....you can should call your CC company and tell them you don't want to receive them. By law, they have to stop.
