COLUMBIA -- The future, coach Susan Walvius, insisted is bright for the University of South Carolina women's basketball program thanks to back-to-back highly ranked recruiting classes and a strong corps of young players already on hand.

But will that future include Walvius, who is 164-158 overall and 51-103 in the Southeastern Conference in 11 seasons as the 10th-seeded Gamecocks (15-14, 4-10) prepare to face seventh-seeded Florida (17-12, 6-8) today in the first round of the SEC tournament?

Walvius said she hasn't talked with Athletic Director Eric Hyman about her future, saying that is a conversation best left until after the season. But she said Hyman has said in the past that in evaluating coaches he "looks at the big picture and is there reason for hope?" "I think with our recruiting classes we've shown there is reason for hope,"
