Jeeps are an interesting breed of automobile. I have an '88 Comanche that has over 400,000 miles on it (not all by me). You have to love to tinker with an auto if you own a jeep...at least an older one. It is amazing how those things are put together. I have the 4.0 6 cyl...and you have to read all of the options in the repair manual...and you need to know a couple of good Jeep message boards...because Jeep would change how they did things midstream...several times over. That said, the original owner had had the engine replaced at about 200,000 miles...I have put a ton of miles on it. It burns some oil and creaks a little, but, that motor is a hoss in a truck that size...and it will fly on the road. I do have an electrical leak somewhere that I can't find...have to crank it every three days to keep it from killing the battery, but, once it is started, it is good to go.

I agree for the most part jeeps are good vehicles. Back when they were still AMC products they were very good vehicles. The 232,258,242(4.0) inline 6 engines are some of the best ever made. Your 1988 would of come with the french built renix fuel injection system. It wasn't exactly the best but it got the job done. I prefer the later chrysler obd I systems on the early 90's 4.0 high outputs.

Because Nissan doesn't build a bad vehicle. After suffering through two Expeditions and an Explorer my family switched over to Nissan...or should I say BACK to Nissan...and could not be more satisfied.

My wife drives the Pathfinder and I am in the Titan Crew Cab 4x4. Problems solved.

good info...

... I'm waiting for my car to die so I can get a new one, thankfully we both have two vehicles that are paid off, I'm enjoying it while it lasts, but mine is over 100K so it will be the first to go...

I'd say they're all GM models....chevys, pontiacs, gmc's, caddy's, etc....or should be.

I'll second that. I love my Maxima and will be getting a 2008 SE here in a couple of months. I can't wait.
