BIG HOUSE NO LONGER THE BIGGEST

Michigan Stadium will still be known as the Big House, but for at least the 2008 football season, it will give up the title of America's biggest football stadium.

As part of the settlement of a lawsuit brought by the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America, Michigan will create more seating for people in wheelchairs, a move that will reduce its capacity from 107,501 in 2007 to 106,201 in 2008. The title of biggest stadium in America will now go to Penn State's Beaver Stadium, which has a capacity of 107,282.

Having the biggest stadium in America has always been a source of pride for Michigan, but settling this lawsuit was necessary. It's the right thing to do, and in any event, any good PR associated with the ability to brag about leading the nation in attendance would have been more than offset by the bad PR of a public fight with paralyzed veterans.

Michigan doesn't expect to be No. 2 in stadium capacity for long. The school's $226 million construction plan calls for an increase in seating capacity, although the total number of seats Michigan Stadium will have when construction is completed has not yet been determined.

Maybe they'll do what Tennessee did a few years ago....just renumber the seats to increase the capacity.

Maybe they'll do what Tennessee did a few years ago....just renumber the seats to increase the capacity. they've already done that....you have just enough room for one cheek...and they don't technically have the biggest stadium....they just cram you in like sardines to get the biggest crowd.
