Gamecocks are WNIT bound

USC receives fourth WNIT bid, has North Carolina A&T in opener

The South Carolina women missed out on an NCAA bid Monday night, but the Gamecocks will head to the Women’s NIT for the third year in a row.
USC (15-15) will play host to North Carolina A&T in the first round on Friday with the winner traveling to face North Carolina State on Monday in Raleigh.
First-round play for the 48-team tournament begins at campus sites Wednesday.

The Gamecocks, who finished 4-10 in SEC play this season, are making their fourth trip to the WNIT, where they are 4-2 all-time.

If this type of performance would have happened more consistently during the regular season, South Carolina would be playing in the NCAA tournament instead of a third consecutive appearance in the WNIT.

If there was any question the Gamecocks were motivated to play in the second-tier tournament, it was answered quickly and emphatically.
