Looks like this time it's the women's basketball team. :-x

USC police arrested two members of the Gamecocks’ women’s basketball team today in connection with financial card theft and drug-related charges.

Jasmine Payne and Ashlie Billingslea, both freshman guards, were arrested this afternoon following the search of a room at the South Quad dormitory, according to USC spokesman Russ McKinney.

McKinney said “the number of and exact charges” that will be brought against Payne and Billingslea have yet to be fully determined. The players are expected to be formally charged tonight and booked at the Richland County jail.

holy crap...I'm STILL amazed at some of the things that people try to pin on Hyman...

You know, Hyman is the reason for global warming.

maybe you think Hyman should have fired Tanner, since Chisenhall and Fuller last year stole money from their coach.

people are always going to find one person to try to pin everything on. promise you that if Horn does a good job here, it won't be credited to Hyman for signing him, but to the "coach who hasn't been named" that helped bring horn here. Hyman is the reason we have so much coming at USC (horn, new baseball field, williams brice additions, etc)

but, on the story of the thread.... i'd love one week to go by where i don't have to read the words "gamecock athlete arrested" ... it's beyond ridiculous at this point.

This is what I will say, I will give Hyman credit, if its due and only a few season will tell, for the hire basketball hire but, you never had these program WIDE issues with McGee (as much as I didnt overly care for him.) Also, there is the missing money issue, the construction delays (ie the baseball stadium) all that come back to the head of the athletic program. Bottom line, and how I tie this into the main theme of the thread, never before in the history of this university has there been such widespread missmanagment of funds, overbudget and behind schedule construction (btw has anyone actually seen anything other than plans and drawings for anything but the baseball stadium?) rampant arrests among VARIOUS athletic teams for SERIOUS crimes (not just your normal college kids got in a fight stuff) and never before has the university ever suffered such a public black eye has it has since Hyman took over. If so please tell me when? And don't say the Morrison and steriods because that was one sport/one scandel. And we are not even talking about that fact that the sports teams have failed to meet the very public goals set forth by its "CEO." All the while raising prices for supporting these students who CONTINUE to commit crimes. WHY HAS SOMEONE AT THE UNIVERSITY NOT STOP THIS DEPARTMENT WIDE?!? IS $64 MILLION NOT ENOUGH MONEY TO DO AN INTERNAL INVESITIGATION AND FIND OUT WHO IS COMMITING CRIMINAL ACTIVITY WITHIN THE STUDENT ATHLETIC ORGANIZATION AND STOP THEM?!? But people on the web somehow would rather get upset with the people questioning Hyman. Reminds me a bit of the people who used to bash the people asking "where are the WMD's?"

And I just wanted to add that I have nothing personal against anyone here at all. I do this kind of stuff for a living. Gut feeling analysis of situational inteligence. Sometimes right sometimes wrong. But something is just not adding up at USC under him. But I just want to make sure its clear I have nothing against anyone here.

So sick and tired of the Hyman bashing. My god, some people will find ANYTHING to blame on the man. Now we are blaming him for players getting arrested? What a damn joke!!

Makes no sense to hate the man. Why, because he came in and HAD to raise prices of tickets and dues and charge for parking, because the great Mcgee left the program in debt? So many bitch about how Williams Brice needs improvements, and we need the baseball stadium, and we need this and we need that, but than you are same people that bitch that we have to pay more SO WE CAN HAVE THESE IMPROVEMENTS!!!! How do you expect to do all these things if your not raising money to do it???

If Hyman had these girls running credit card fraud to pump money into the football program then I'm all for it, maybe that's how we're paying for Horn!
Ahh, where's Don Imus when you need him?

Some folks will always rag on Hyman (and everyone else) because, even though they themselves have no desire or qualifications to take his place, nobody can do a job better than they can. That's just how they think - they're the expert on any and every thing and everyone else sucks. And they have a drive to tell as many people as possible of this "fact".

Now, if Hyman recruited these trouble making players, then pile on. It's all about judging the character of who you're recruiting. If a coach does a poor job of that, players get arrested. I believe this is the first incident for the women's basketball team under Walvius so cut her some slack, but she needs to pay closer attention to who she's signing.

Do these arrests count toward the Fulmer Cup or is that just football?

I don't like Hyman or many of the things he is doing and would be very happy if he went elsewhere, BUT he has no blame for any player who goes out and commits a crime or does something stupid in public. Neither he nor the coaches for that matter can be with every player 24/7 and it all boils down to personal responsibility!!!! The players know right from wrong and the consequences of those wrong actions and all of the responsibility lies with those players involved and them alone.
This cannot be laid at his door.

According to Richland County Jail, these players have been charged with:

Credit Card Theft
Credit Card Fraud
Possession of Marijuana
Intent to Distribute
Petit Larceny

I agree that there is noone that can be held responsible for these players but the players themselves. If crime were preventable by peers, family etc there would be no need for jails. These players decided to be all grown and make grown up choices - very very sad for their families, their teammates, coaches and the program in general. What selfish stupid actions!!!

The revolving door statement is crazy. We have STEVE SPURRIER one of the bes coachs in the country. Ask anyone they will tell you that. Ray Tanner has run one of the most sucsess full baseball programs in the country. 7 out of 9 super reagionals one of only 2 schools. 2nd highest win total since 2000. The list keeps going. I would say thats a great coach. And now Darrin Horn who is fresh off a sweet 16 trip with one of the best big guys (Morrow) in the country set to come in. Ya horrible coaching staff just fire the whole damn thing why dont you. Pathetic.

USC women’s basketball players jailed on additional charges

By Joseph Person
The State
Published: April 3, 2008

Authorities filed additional charges today against the USC women’s basketball players accused of stealing credit and debit cards and planning to sell marijuana.A day after being released from the Richland County jail, Jasmine Payne and Ashlie Billingslea are back in jail after USC police connected them to two other thefts at the Blatt P.E. Center. Payne, 18, of Bay Springs, Miss., faces six additional counts for a total of 11 charges, most of which are felonies. With three new charges, the 19-year-old Billingslea, of Stone Mountain, Ga., has a total of eight counts against her.

Maybe the reason some of these students think it is no big deal to commit these crimes is too many in our society want to shift part of the blame to other people who have absolutely nothing to do with the crimes they commit. My big complaint is too many of you don't buy into individual accountability and responsibility. You just love shared blame. I may not like Tammy, but I doubt he has anything at all to do with his players bad behavior nor do our coaches or Hyman. Some of you are part of the problem.

I dont blame anyone directly but the players. If the coaches are recruiting players with prior issues then I blame the coaches.
