Carolina Cheerleaders and Dance teams going to nationals this week

the gamecock all girl and coed cheer teams, and well as the dance team, are headed to daytona beach, florida on wednesday for NCA cheer and dance nationals. they had a dress rehearsal today for all three teams at the volleyball center where they all did their routines twice.

they leave on wednesday, and compete in the prelims on friday. about half the teams make it through prelims to the finals the following day. they will be competing against teams all across the country (including clemson!!!) last year, and for the 5th striaght year, louisville took home the coed title, clemson took fourth, and carolina took 7th. (although i have heard clemson the clemson coed team is competing in a different division this year. small coed, with less males. so carolina may not go against them this year)

i cant remember what place the all girl team took last year, but ill tell you now, after seeing those girls today, they kick butt this year. dont be surprised if they arent one of the top teams. this is the dance teams first year competing.

i recorded all the performances today. they are being uploaded onto youtube now. i didnt want to make them public because it's not too good of an idea to put them on a popular site so other teams they are competing against could see them and try to rip off their skills. ill edit them so yall on here can see them and post the link soon =)

they dance team looked really good today! ill put a video up of them too soon. my computer is moving incredibly slow today.

but just to add on to what i said earlier, it means a lot for these girls and guys to have yalls support. im a competitive cheerleader (for high school and allstar) myself, and i know a lot of people write what we do off as standing on the sidelines of a game and waving our arms around. these kids put in countless hours of hardwork at practice and in the weight room, all for a 2:15 second routine for one weekend out of the year. i cant speak for the dance team because i know their schedule, but i know the cheer teams get back from nationals next week, only to have tryouts for next season the following week. talk about commitment!

I was impressed with the dancers we had this year for the basketball games...

I mean I might have been- AHEM- "swayed" by certain..ummm..non-dancing reasons.. cough cough hot pants cough.. but I really umm thought they "moved" well?.... whewwww is it hot in here??

yep. it's quite a challege. it's kicking my butt in high school (ive been on 3 different teams and once before) but i cant imagine what it's like in college.

not to mention they do all this training to learn ONE 2:15 minute long routine, that must be exicuted to perfection. it doesnt matter how hard you work, one tiny slip up at nationals and it's all down the drain.

The Carolina Girls (dance team) are awesome. I know a couple of them and man you wouldn't believe all the work that's involved in it. Those girls are more than just dancers, they are well-tuned athletes.

Hope they kick ass!

bad idea showing me that site...i'll be busy for the next two days watching all of that.

i will say, i watched clemson's co-ed prelims...
they have one HELL of a tumbler (she's the last to go in the tumbling section)
then they had a stunt fall. haha

our teams did great. i must say tho, i LOVED the music for the co-ed. its a shame they didn't make it to the next round.

it sucks frank (the last tumbler for carolina coed) busted. hes SUCH a good tumbler and usually sticks that. but he's a freshman so im sure there is tons more from him to come.

fianl results are in! as it turns out, the coed team won something called the challege cup, and got to automatic advance to finals anyway!
