Riverside just getting started
Baseball playoffs are when Warriors step up to plate
By Bob Castello
STAFF WRITER
GREER -- In the last nine years, Riverside High School’s baseball team has won nine district championships. Four of those seasons ended with state titles.
Indeed, it’s the Warriors’ time of year.
“The atmosphere is awesome,” senior third baseman Chipper Daniels said. “This is basically when our season starts.” Riverside (23-1) begins the 2008 postseason at home today when it plays Lugoff-Elgin at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class AAA, District III tournament.

Yea man, my little bro is a senior and told me all about the stuff. The senior skip day monday, the senior pranks, the administration cracking down hardcore, the orange shirt protest, the subsequent threat that they will suspend any of those kids, and the methane leak today...hahaha
Go Warriors

I've heard all about Riverside's pranks didn't someone pull the fire alarm today? and the sprinklers went off basically ruining some classrooms

Damn. Riverside has really gone down hill. Sounding pretty pathetic.

Word is that it was a methane leak at the school and somehow that triggered the sprinklers. The senior pranks sounded pretty funny, still remember the one my senior class did with the bouncy balls.

hopefully flora and riverside will meet again this season. didnt they play in the IP classic at the beginning?
they played some pretty close games last season, maybe we'll see more of the same. flora and riverside ALWAYS both bring powerful teams.

We were rated a top 10 High School in the country...not the state...the country in my 4 years there. Four consecutive years. Now...we destroy classrooms. Real smart. Good job.

F--k 'em. They're students and they broke alot of rules (and laws). I think they should expell all of the seniors and make them go to summer school to get a diploma. Graduation should be cancelled.

i'm a senior. please tell me what laws we broke? the sprinklers were not part of a senior prank but part of the protests brought forth by the lower classmen.

The only person who broke the law with regards to the RHS situation was the student who put his cigarette lighter to the sprinkler and cause the entire sprinkler system to go off. Every one of the "senior pranks" was simply a situation which was not addressed by the adminstration as illegal, and therefore was not in violation of the policies of the school or the school board. The silent protest which has been planned with the orange shirts is definitely a great idea. THough my brother told me that the administration plans on suspending any student who wears orange on that day, it is completely unconsitutuional for the school to regualte what a student wears because of the Tinker v Des Moines case, in which the court ruled that the First Amendment, applied thru the Fourteenth Amendment, doesn't allow for schools to punish students as long as the protest does not interfere with school discipline or the rights of others.
I would also like to apologize for my statements earlier with regards to the sprinklers. I was unaware of the situtaion with the student putting his lighter up to the sprinkler and setting it off, I was informed that it was not a student, but a mechanical issue that caused that, and my carelessness and ignorance to the situation made me sound somewhat like I thought it was ok that it happened, and that is not the case. The idiot who did that at RHS should be punished, and i hope the board accepts this apology for my lack of knowledge in the situation and my reckless "support" of some dumba$$'s actions

I agree with you gamecock rob. the person who did it should be punished. Mr. Boiling, lacrosse coach and econ teacher, said that they have an idea of who did it and that they have two federal offences from the fire department and atleast 6 charges from the school district and local government that could turn into felonies.

What about the accident that happened at the gate? Would the actions that led up to that be considerred illegal?.....just askin'.
riceatusc
04-26-2008, 02:49 PM
would not think that those events would be illegal. how could purchasign a lock and chain and wrapping it around something be illegal? but then again that was not an action by the senior class but that of a individual. it was not planned by the same people who planned the rest of the pranks..so why punish everyone? plus its the school who is at fault because the gates are supposed to be chained up and nonmovable.

Sorry dude, but I'm fairly certain blocking a roadway that is supposed to be clear, particularly when it results in accident, is against the law. As to why the entire class should be punished; these pranks were done in the name of your class. It was just that, a senior prank. By your own admission, there was a group of seniors that planned these pranks. Did all seniors participate? No. But sometimes when something is done in the name of a group, innocent people are punished. I can best sum it up in the words of a Riverside student: "Hey Riverside kids: Shut the **** up and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Thanks for ****ing up everybody else's year (and next year as well, for those who will be there).
I've tried to see things from your point of view, but, as it turns out, I just can't get my head that far up my ass."

they blocked a drive into the parking lot....not a public road. the accident would not have happened if the person involved was not driving so fast, which happened to be faster than a school zone. they also shouldve seen that the gate was closed.
and to that riverside student i would say a nice friendly youre welcome. what beef do you have with all this? does it affect you what so ever?

The rules of a public road apply fully to your parking lot. And don't blame the kid that hit the fence for doing this or that...Had the fence been open an accident would not have occurred. If you don't recognize how serious that is, I don't know what to tell you. As to whether it effects me? Not in the least. I do not now, nor have I ever attended RHS. I just remember high school and listening to kids whine and "protest" because the liberties they think they are entitled to have been violated. And I do find it hilarious that students FROM YOUR SCHOOL are laughing at the "protesters". Your cause isn't important. Rules were broken, as well as laws, and the students are being punished. If it doesn't effect your future i.e. college take your punishment like a grownup and quit whining.

im right there with those student who are laughing at the protesters. ive believed since the beginning that the best thing to do is follow the just and MINOR punishments that the school has layed down thus far. I did not wear orange in the protest, infact I was telling people that it would only make things worst for the entire school.

These "issues" the kids are complaining about aren't issues, and frankly they should feel very fortunate if they get to walk. I hate to be blunt, but nothing that happens in high school matters. They need to take their punishment like big boys and girls and shut the hell up.

i agree. the administration of RHS did little compared with what they could have done. we seniors are nt really concered with the punishments as much as the lowerclass men. the lower class men are the ones who are incharge of these protests. they just need to man up and realize that things are no where as bad as they could be...
but on a lighter note.. RHS beat greenville last night 3-0
