Carolina improves to 33-15 and 13-11 in the SEC while the loss drops Florida to 28-18 and 13-11 in the conference. South Carolina returns to action on Wednesday night with a non-conference tilt at Wofford with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm.
Carolina reliever Nick Godwin (http://gamecocksonline.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/godwin_nick00.html) worked five innings of relief and allowed just three runs on eight hits to pick up the win. He is 5-2 on the year. Reliever Parker Bangs (http://gamecocksonline.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/bangs_parker00.html) came on in relief and got the final out of the game on a strikeout to earn his second save of the year. Florida reliever Kyle Mullaney suffered the loss and is 0-4 this season. He allowed two runs on three hits in 0.2 innings of work.
Disher went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Gamecocks at the plate. The home run for Disher was his 15th of the season. Smoak's 19th home run of the year gave him 58 for his career to tie him for ninth on the SEC All-Time career list. Darnell's homer was his 15th of the season. Florida had 12 hits including three from Avery Barnes and two apiece from Matt den Dekker, Bryson Barber and Riley Cooper.
South Carolina held an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Carolina took advantage of one Florida error and Disher hit a two-run homer off of Florida starter Patrick Keating.

The Gators would tie the game at three apiece in the top of the fourth inning on the back of home runs from Bryson Barber and Riley Cooper. Barber drove a 0-1 pitch from Carolina starter Blake Cooper (http://gamecocksonline.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/cooper_blake00.html) for a homer to right field followed by Cooper's blast to left field, also on a 0-1 count tying the game for Florida.

The fourth inning featured a rare occurrence as well with the Gamecocks recording all three outs on two pickoffs by Godwin and a caught stolen base. Godwin picked off both Barber and Cooper and Disher threw out Clayton Pisani at second base to limit the Gators to only two runs in the inning. South Carolina had three pickoffs in the game with Godwin totaling two and Cooper also adding one. Godwin has eight pickoffs on the year for Carolina.
South Carolina would regain the lead in the fifth inning with four runs. my observations from the game today (excuse the PUI): Wingo freaked out at second base. He made some incredible plays. Reese let a few go through that he maybe should have got to. Smoak was very solid on making the tag on the gator runners off first. Outfield play pretty solid, couple good grabs, maybe a few blown throws home. Dish missed a few guys stealing but he hasnt been too consistent in that category anyways. Cooper started off the first three innings solid. I liked when i saw Godwin running for the mound and coop out in the fourth i think. Godwin hasnt seen the mound in a while seeing how we didnt have a week game. He continued to throw fla runners out at first.
Batting looked good, left a few stranded here and there. Disher's homerun in the first was a rope. A line drive that i swore would break the fence in half. Smoak's bomb was nice as well as JD's. One inning i remember the bottom of the order batting real well. That all i can recollect. And o yeah...some of the gator players got heckled pretty bad and I love iT!!!

well in my opinion, it was easy to feel that way. we had just gotten swept by LSU and didn't play one game during the week, then to enter friday nights game and play like we did, it was sad. I'm very glad to see them get these two. GO COCKS!!!

Great win today. Total team win.

I thought the ump got a little inconsistant on Coop in the 4th inning and it put him in a bad position and he got rattled. Dish also does not frame the pitches as well as Enders. Kyle stays on balance better behind the plate. Landon was the absolute best at this.

Godwin's move to first is stellar and Smoak's glove work is perfect.

When Dish and JD hit the ball we always win it seems.

The Gaytor starter had no curveball (only fast balls and changes with movement away) and this is Dish's weakness. If you throw him hard stuff you play with fire.

The lefty that came in late got behind in the count and tried a curve that just hung there and JD ripped it.

If the hitter before Smoak gets on with with less than two outs. They have to pitch to Justin and he WILL hurt you. I don't think Bobby Cox would ever pitch to him, he would treat him like Barry Bonds back in the day.lol

Wingo at second is awesome. Crisp is great @ 2nd also but he is also great anywhere so this move to play them both is good for our defense.
