It was a touching story, but they didnt win it in my mind either. The refs changed their original call without being sure and still think it was the wrong call. It would have been an incredible finish the other way too.

well the reporter said that 1.7 seconds were left after the missed foul shot. i counted the seconds from when the kid touched the ball to when he released it and it was almost 3 seconds. the call seems right

I had heard about the Charleston 9 but I never knew anymore than the brief story of them being killed in the line of duty. That was a great piece and I am glad I was able to see it. Very sad but very inspirational.

A friend of mine in California called my last night about 8:00 HIS time (meaning I was about to go to bed,) and he said, "now, you live in SUMMERVILLE right?" I replied, "yeah, in Summerville."

He went on, "ESPN just had this great piece about the basketball team and their coach. That was so great how they overcame everything."

Of course, I had to fill in the blanks and let him know Spartanburg High fans didn't think that last shot to get waved off was the least bit inspirational!

It is really awesome to see that, and I think they did a great job. It's been such a demoralizing year with all of the fallout and just missing the guys in general down here, and I'm so happy for the team. I don't think I'll ever forget the feeling of going to work that morning and still not knowing the extent of everything, and seeing the engines just then coming back and catching the expressions on the faces of the guys through the windows.

to all who thinks summerville didn't win, you can kiss our greenwave a**es

look it up on slomo, the kid took 3 steps before shooting; and the ref by the other rim called the shot off immediately.

quit trying to act like you know something when you probably weren't even there.

Well, just for the record:

I've seen several video and still shots from the game. The red light over the backboard is clearly ON and the ball is still in the kid's hands. There's a couple of shots from the sideline floor looking up at the kid with the ball and behind him is clearly the red light is on.

When it happened there was an video on the WLTX website that was very unspecific in showing what happened but since then several other pictures have surfaced. The ball was in his hands and the game clock was at 0:00. The refs DID make the RIGHT call.

Of course, I'm also one of these who doesn't believe a game is won or lost on the last shot. Both Summerville and Spartanburg had 39 minutes and 58 seconds to score more points. Even Millhouse (or was his name Middleton) could have iced the game at the line and missed.

It was a very close game between two good teams (bad teams don't make the championship) and Summerville didn't get a LUCKY break, they got the RIGHT break.

There was nothing that was clear about that call. Even Bob Levy at the end of that piece said it has been looked at frame-by-frame and you still couldn't tell.

Awesome piece by espn. I am truly happy for the Summerville team.

Brinkley Bulldozer is right; in the last view of the last shot (from behind the goal where the ball went in) the ref comes in immediately to wave it off. The Spartanburg players and coaches just stampede right on past him.

At 1:11 in the second clip it shows the guy shooting the ball with the backboard behind him....the light is lit up showing that the game was over and the ball was still in his hands. Summerville won the game, the refs got the call right!

Umm no they didn't - well they did but we do not live in a fair world. It's been proven many times by many analysts... It was a made basket that should have counted.

And the trophy is in Summerville.

That not only proves you are wrong and the videos show the proof, it also proves I'm right.

Facts are facts: the game was over and Spartanburg shot late. And we do live in a very fair world: the WINNER was the team that scored the most points in regulation: The Summerville Green Wave.

Dude the shot was good, and it is very obvious.

Watch.. it's perfectly clear IwkbjxUR1DE

The refs should have never made a call like that without video replay. It should have counted... I would like to hear what they were talking about in that huddle.

No doubt. That shot should have counted. They showed a still shot from one of the videos on News Channel 7 in Spartanburg in which Z man had released the ball approx. 3 inches from his hands, while the backboard light had still not gone off. It was good. Anyways, it was the refs fault for giving up on the play and not watching until the end. If u were there or saw a replay 2 of them were walking off right after the free throw miss. They obviously had opinion as to if it was good or not, because they didnt even watch the play!!!!

I really don't care if I piss off anyone from Scummerville, but that shot was in every way good. Yes, Summerville may have deserved to win, but they shouldn't have. That shot was good. This will forever be the championship Summerville stole.
