Three of my buddies and I are going to the Vandy game this year. I'm hoping we can drive up on Wed night after work, tailgate all day on Thu and drive back on Friday. We've never been to an away Vandy game before so none of us know where to tailgate... we just know we need to find a spot with some shade, a decent football throwing lane and stumbling room for when the drunken staggers start about four hours into the experience. We'll have alcohol, food and a satellite TV.
Is anyone else making plans to attend? I'm going to start making preparations for the trip in a few weeks and would like to get a good base of gamecock fans to coordinate with so we can hang out while we're there.

you dont even need tickets....go to the parking garage that is right by the stadium in their endzone...pay $5.00 and park go to the top set up the tailgate and grill, drink, and watch the game...if I go this is what I am going to end up doing because it is basically like watching the game from the zone at Willy B... and you can drink and eat what you want

no..why?could you imagine carolina having a parking deck right next to the stadium in which you payed 5 dollars and could bring your own cooler and watch a game for free? i would have a better chance of changing skin color and avoiding taxes for life than that scenario ever allowed around Williams Brice.

it would never happen at carolina but it does at vandy and hardly nobody parks there i went last year and was pissed because i had tickets to the game and didnt think to park there and stay there....

If you're in Nashville, make sure to stop by Twin Kegs bar. Its on West Thompson right off Nolensville. Its on the other side of town but its got the best burger I've ever paid for. If you make it, order the Big Bacon Burger. Another recommendation is Cock of the Walk. Its past Opry Mills and the new Grand Ole Opry, on Music Valley Dr. off of the Briley Parkway. Best fried pickles in the world. I suggest one of these on your trip, both however are out of the way.

I went a few years ago and tailgated for a 1230pm game. We got there at 8:30am hung over and noone was there BUT Cock fans.
The Vandy fans did not show up until about 1045am at the earliest. We were close to the stadium and they started going up to the stadium about 11:30 and they kept asking us what time we arrived to tailgate. When we told them they acted so surprised like out entire fanbase was crazy. We must have had about 15K there and they has about the same.
Don't worry about shade the entire place is covered up with oak trees mostly shade everywhere. I cannot remember the year but I beleve Cutler was a Junior and it was supposed to be a close game. We won 35-6 I think.

Yep. Long as my schedule allows, We're coming up Wednesday sometime after class. We're staying at the Marriott near the stadium. We'll probably come up Wednesday, go out that night, have a good time, then come out Thursday morning, and probably setup our Tailgate near the Marriott or something. I'm going to look up on that some more. But we're trying to find a good shady place to setup. We'll have 2 Gamecock tents, TV and Satelite, Grill, Tables, Food, Speakers with Music, ect. A pretty big setup. I'll let you know when I find out about the tailgating spots. Here is the map. The red is that parking deck. (Don't park there). The orange is our hotel, which is really nice. I just outlined that area with black for some reason, lol. I'll keep you updated on everything. If I get more info I'll be sure to pass it along.

Very cool! Thanks for the heads up on the hotel... I am going to try tomorrow to see if they have rooms available. That looks like a sweet spot if we can get in.
I'll PM you once I get our time frame locked down and we can get some partying done Gamecock style in the Music City!

Yes, It really is the closest place to the stadium. They had plenty rooms left when we got our reservations a couple of weeks ago so I'm sure you can get atleast one room. I'm going to try and find pictures of around the stadium to get a better idea of what it is like. You're welcome to tailgate with us and my parents if you want. Once I get more info I'll keep in touch.

Vanderbilt fans don't tailgate. I remember going a few years back and kickoff was around 1. We got there early thinking that maybe there would be some ppl cooking breakfast. NOBODY....at least from Vandy. USC fans were there and Vandy fans didn't show up until kickoff. I would venture to say that USC had more of a home field advantage than Vandy, but a Thursday night game should be interesting. Safe travels and best of luck finding a good spot TStone!

Hey I live about 35 mins from Nashville...I will be at the game and hopefully tailgaiting somewhere...we have a Gamecock alumni group here in nashville but not a large attendance...so they may have a tailgate set up...yeah you will get some vandy people tailgaiting..it's the beginning of a new season and it's a nationally televised game...I have never done the parking deck option like others have because i have this thing where i have to be in the stadium...there is a street that is 20 yards from the football stadium entrance and that's where all the vandy folks have tents...it's called vandyville or something....there are plenty of parking areas right across the street from the stadium and people set up tents there...when i went to the game here in nashville 2 years ago...there was this one street that had all gamecocks fans...they set up there tents and started tailgating...living here in nashville, i don't have any friends that are gamecocks...otherwise i would get down there really early and set up my own tent...i actually may do that this year...but i will check back on this thread and let me know if anyone has any questions...been living in nashville area for 2 yrs now so i know the vandy campus pretty good..im a gamecock grad...26 yrs old

I went in 2006 and I just parked in somebody's neighborhood about 1/4 mile from the stadium. It is really unique just parking your car next to someones house and tailgating--perfectly legal as long as you don't park next to a hydrant or block someone's drive. There is also a super great BBQ restaurant, but I can't remember the name. I stayed at the hotels near the airport. Never crowded and really nice people in Nashville. It's really easy to navigate Nashville, easier than any other city in SC.

We are going blind into Vandy, no real plan so if you nail down a definate TG spot, let everyone know and we will be there. We plan on getting there EARLY.
