The Blythewood Bengals have made the move to 4A football this year and will join a completely new region.
Lower Richland changed classifications entirely and Ridge View and Spring Valley have left Region 5, so I don't know where RNE or Dutch Fork is headed.
But here is one of the brand new regions:
Blythewood
Rock Hill
Lancaster
Ridge View
Spring Valley
South Pointe

South PointeIm looking forward to the Berkeley's scrimmage with Blythewood this year, we lost a lot but should still be competetive. Southe Pointe is a really really really good team. They came to moncks corner in the playoffs and gave Berkeley all they could handle, that Gilmore is a stud.

...and South Pointe is just getting started....they'll become dominant within the next couple of years. My poor ole Rock Hill High ain't much in football anymore since a school zone realignment....but should be a fun little region to watch.

im not sure how blythewood will fare in 4A. espcially this season. they lost a lot of talent this year. plus they had 4A numbers within weeks after opening the school, but took them a few seasons to get realigned. so basically a lot of the schools they were beating up on were a good amount smaller than them. butttt maybe im just bitter cause they beat my team these past 2 seasons. haha. they might do well, though. i guess we'll have to wait and see

Why would South Point and Rock Hill be in the same region but not Northwestern?

Gaffney is back in region 3 too, making that a non-region game for Spartanburg, Byrnes and Dorman which could have some effect on the points at season's end. I hate to see them go, that was a really tough, fun region with Dorman, Byrnes, Gaffney and Spartanburg.
Remember the old days with Rock Hill and Northwestern (I think) in that region too?

Its like that all over the midlands especially in richland 2 because we have 4 high schools and the talent is spread all over the district. Could be an interesting year down here.

You mean region 2AAAA... It was Northwestern, Rock Hill High, Gaffney, Spartanburg, Dorman, Boiling Springs and Byrnes. BYrnes and Boiling Springs were the doormats. My senior Year at Northwestern we Beat Phil Petty's Boiling Springs team 41-0 and Byrnes 70-6 with alot of our 3rd team playing

Union used to be in Region 2 4a in the 90's. Union, Spartanburg, Dorman, Gaffney, Rock Hill, Northwestern, Chester and Boiling Springs. The best region in the history of SC high school football.

I came to Northwestern from Stratford high in 95 so I knew nothing of those other teams or Rock Hill for that matter until i moved there. We did play chester but they were 3 AAA then with Maurice Morris

Half of the teams are from the Midlands (Ridge View, Spring Valley, Blythewood)
The other half is composed of teams in the upper state (South Pointe, Rock Hill) and I'm not sure where exactly Lancaster is

since the arrival of teams in 4A now it has reclassified everyone. GO BENGALS!

yes it has, but new teams have been added so not sure when they reclassified most teams.

all teams are reclassified every 2 years....it is based on the 145 day enrollment of each school. As some areas grow, so do the schools' enrollment and they move up in classification. Likewise, some areas decline in population, and so do the schools, and they go down in classification. Also affecting schools' enrollment is the addition of new schools, like you see in the Rock Hill area. Schools that hover near the cutoff numbers will often flip flop between classifications every 2 years, depending on the enrollment that year. Then there are those schools that petition to stay in a lower classification on a hardship claim....but that's getting into another kettle of fish.....

Thanks Carolina, i knew with Blythewood since my daughter goes there that they were just above the cutoff to make it into 4A this year, it will grow even more by next year.

....maybe the best in the country! There were several years that 2,3, even 4 of the teams would be ranked top 25 nationally. They actually televised 2 RH/NW games nationally back in the mid 90's when both were highly ranked.

I remember back in the 90's when Rock Hill, Northwestern, Spartanburg, Dorman, and Gaffney used to be in the same Region I think Byrnes may have been in the region too. The State Champs always came from that region, I hate that region II-4A lost Gaffney this year though.
