First of all, spare us any and all stupid jokes. They aren't funny and you won't come up with anything that hasn't been said before at least 100 times.
I was looking at the SC High School League website about realignment and it notes the SC School For The Deaf And Blind doesn't field a football team ANYMORE.
I know those kids used to play and even produced some really top-quality athletes who played college ball.
Does anyone know WHEN the football program ended?

no... I didnt know they had a team.. i guess they would be all deaf....that would make for a hell of a time as far as snapping the ball on offense

not at all meant as a joke, but HTF can a blind kid play football?
I do alot of work, mainly therapeutic, with ex-athletes that have been paralysed or permanently injured, and even with deaf kids and to a much lesser extent mentally challenged kids...I'm not blessed with the patience.

looks like they do have a team at least as of 07-08

The deaf kids played football, they do have blind baseball and softball leagues and the ball makes a beeping sound and the bases are like tackleing dummies, its quite interesting to watch and see how they time everything.

I know that we played them (Cambridge Academy) in an 8-man scrimmage like 7 years ago, and we multilated them. I don't think they had any good players.

Actually, deaf players are GREAT on defense: they never get drawn off sides by an audible. (really.)
The technique is all the players watch the ball. Makes is a little difficult on the O-Line but it's probably the smallest obstacle they have to overcome in life.

actually, they do have a team, but I don't think they compete in a SCHSL region anymore...they schedule about 6-8 games each year... It is a strange experience watching them play...they do things a little different, like patting the center for the snap, and the linemen watching the ball for the snap....still, they have some pretty good athletes...they make a way
I remember when I was in high school, I was in a track meet that included SCSDB...they had a sprinter who was blind....I remember he was really fast. I don't know exactly how he stayed on the track, but they said he did a lot of it by sound....it was an amazing, as well as humbling experience.

I have never heard of this before until now and I would just like to say I think that this is great these kids are getting to play football. Just think about how hard life has been for them growing up and now they are given the chance to compete just like everyone else. Talk about overcoming obstacles, these kids are a testiment that if you want to you can accomplish anything.

I remember my dad talking about playing football against the school for the deaf and the blind...I always thought he was picking on Clemson...
In all seriousness I think they stopped 11 man football in the late 80s but I'm not 100% sure

WE've got GYSA (Ga youth Soccer Assoc) that do MIRACLES for these kids.
you can't imagine how excited they are
two events per year and my club team is going to participate at this years event and help and a few of us will also perform a skills show for them.
I think I might be more excited than they are
