View Full Version : How bad you want to beat NC State?

Just a question to throw out there to pass the time. I know we ALL will be DEVASTATED if we lose, so I won't even discuss that notion.

But if you are like me, you also want to win by a certain margin. I was disappointed when we came out and only beat ULL by 14 in last year's opener.

I will not feel so great if we don't come out with at least a 10 point win against NCSU. I mean State is not that good, has few returning starters, admit themselves they are rebuilding and we get them at home. We are expected to win and to me only winning by a field goal (while still a win) would not leave me in the best of spirits.

So how bad do y'all want to beat NC State? I know, I know - everyone wants to win by 8 TDs, but what is your cut-off point margin for an acceptable win?

Stomp some ass. I love it!!! My brother-in-law is a State grad going to the game with me and he is talking junk. He'll probably show up here later on this thread as he joined just to poke fun at the Cock community. I would be happy with 20!!

I might not be a good one to ask because I haven't forgotten some years back when they screwed us out of a victory in Raleigh with the time clock. The next year in Cola., fans were walking around the parking lot, dressed up like Father Time, Pay Back is Hell and all that good stuff. Well, it got better because we put a flogging on them that some of those State fans haven't forgotten to this day. We were up by 40 ish something points and the crowd was yelling, "Go for two." Need I say more about how much I want to beat them. ROFLMAO :rotfl:

Good point. We lost to them last time we played in Raleigh at the Hurricane game, I remember losing by ten and hearing about it from years from State fans. So we need to win by at least 11 to one up them til 2009!!

We have two. Jasper and King!!! They pretty much do anything they want, especially against ACC lines.

I truly think we'll be in condition, pumped and ready to play State. Not to look ahead, but..... Vandy might prove to be a bit more worrisome....

I'd be a little disappointed with anything less than 14. I think we need to make a statement. 10 would be OK. But I would be very disappointed with less than 10.

I think if we win handidly against State we will immediately gain the confidence we were so lacking the end of last year. We start things "anew."

Then we go to Vandy with revenge on our minds. If we beat State by ten or more (IMHO) I say we will lay wood on Vandy in their house. At least 21 margin as we prepare for UGA.

Again, this is IF we beat State handidly, which is why I am so bent out of shape on "Acceptable" win margin against the Wolfcrap!!

Have you read those reports bout how pumped our defense is?...that's what will set a tempo for this game, i feel bad for anyone even who even remotely looks like they are carrying a football in white and red. As for Vandy we don't wanna overlook them but they lost a lot and prolly will not be the same team we saw last year but we are still gonna take this one game at a time and no game is a small one.

Good post and Vandy is an SEC team with a good Coach and they are hungry. They are also sandwiched in between our first game and the big #1 Gawja game....could be a dangerous game...

That's another reason we need to man up against NCSU and win big. We are representing the SEC in the ESPN College Football 2008 Season Kick-Off game. We got all these other SEC fans pulling for our team to whoop an ACC team. We HAVE to win big. No 21-20 crap score where we're all saying "Well a win is a win."

Must win big. I said at the start of this post I would be happy with ten, but after chatting now I think at least 17. We have to represent.

First of all, if you're expecting State to be poor competition, you better not watch the game because you won't like what you see. Fact is, TOB will have something to prove coming off a 5-7 season, AND State is a very scrappy team....always have been. Now, State will surely be a 10 point dog in this clash, but we are not one of Spurrier's Florida teams of yore with the lights out offense either. Another tiny factoid...it will be our first game too, AND it's not like we have an offensive juggernaut on our hands. If your day will not be complete without a complete dismantling of State, and a firm, sound whipping, I think you'll ruin your dinner on this one. Defense wins the day, and we sparkle somewhat in our offense...USC 31 State 13.

McKinley/ 8 catches, 96 yards, 1 td
Cook/ 3 catches, 45 yards, 1 td
Mike Davis/ 89 yards rushing, 1 td, 20 yards catching
Lecorn/ 4 catches 35 yards
Beecher 17/24 235 yards, 1 int
Everybody else gets their yards, 1 misc td, total 160 yards rushing

Defense seems to be vandys strongpoint where they return their secondary from last year and i believe pretty much most of the line with only the loss of a very good linebacker....now offense is where they are having problems with the loss of their starting running back and their SEC all-time leader in receptions Earl Bennett and first round pick Chris Williams not to mention pretty much their entire O-Line.

I want a huge win against NC State so that when clemson plays them this season, our win will be greater(better if clemson loses to them too!!!). Just something to begin the bragging rights with. Hopefully we don't injure none of their key players so that they can retaliate against another SC team and a conference foe!

Wow, that was over 20 years ago. I don't think that too many Pack fans still worry about a game in 1987. We have had plenty of embarrassing beat downs since. Plus, it has been 2 decades since we lost to the cocks!

I am looking forward to the game, I always enjoy going to WB. But, it will be weird not rooting for the gamecocks this time...

I won't be watching the scoreboard much as long as we stay ahead. For me, there are two areas of our game that deserve close attention.

First, the run defense. Yeah, NC State didn't run the ball well last year, but this year they have a nice rotation of healthy RBs and a beefy O-line. I don't expect NC State to challenge our DBs much at all (they may already be looking to bring in frosh QB Glennon later this season) so the Wolfpack will probably stay grounded. If we can hold them under 100 yards, it'll be a good sign. If we give up 5+ yards a carry, though, it'll be time to start worrying about SEC feature backs like Moreno and Foster, as well as LSU's talent-laden RB rotation.

Second, the play of our O-line. NC State has made a habit of turning out high quality defensive lineman lately (Mario Williams, Manny Lawson, Demario Pressley) and this year the d-line is easily the best part of their defense. They're perfectly capable of dirtying Beecher's jersey if our boys don't start out strong, and given our ground game problems last year, we need to improve our run blocking as well. If our beefeaters play well, though, we should have no problem lighting up the Wolfpack b/c their back seven is suspect at best.

I don't have a "margin of victory" threshold, but if we win the two areas above we could very well win by three touchdowns.
