I think with football season on the cusp of kickoff '08 now would be a great time to express what it means to you to be not just a fan, but a member of The University of South Carolina Fighting Gamecock Nation.

I LOVE FOOTBALL SEASON, its my most favorite time of the year, seeing old friends and meeting new ones , getting all decked out in our GARNET for GAMEDAY , the sound of 2001 , the excitement of the crowd , I love everything about it !! My nephew was killed in 06 in a car accident I went to all the home games before that , used to go to the away games, since his death its been hard to go back to Williams Brice, he went to the games and loved the GAMECOCKS so much , he had planned on one day playing for Tanner and the YARDCOCKS............that dream was shattered!! Been in the Full Scholly for 40 years (my family ), I thank God everyday I am a GAMECOCK.......... living in the upstate and so close to Clemson , I could have ended up being one of "them" !! GO COCKS !!

What does being a Gamecock mean to me? It means spending Fall with my Football family some that I may not see or talk to until kickoff. Its means knowing everything running through the mind of 80,000 people at the same time. It means being best friends with strangers for 4 quarters. It means dealing with joy, disappointment, anger, fear, and every other emotion people can feel. It is the joy of victory and the agony of defeat. It is bragging rights and it is developing thick skin. It is loving those people on the field with everything I have, even though I may never know them personally. It is dealing with heartbreak, let down, and an entire off season of what ifs? Only to believe that this year might be the year. It is knowing that when that year comes and there is a little crystal ball being held over a Gamecock's head, I will be sitting in my seat whether it be in stadium or in my living room crying my eyes out like a little baby, because I have been wanting this my entire life. So what does being a Gamecock mean to me? It means everything. GO COCKS!:woo:

To me, it's all about that smell of fall coming when you step outside, the cool breeze blowin across your face while the sun gently warms your face. It's about seeing old friends that you haven't seen since last year and tailgating with the people you see almost every day. It's about bringing back memories of games your dad used to take you to, and making new memories wih your son. It's about a huge group of people coming together to support one common cause. It's about a sense of belonging when you see literally thousands of other people who want the exact same things that you do. It's about tradition - reliving existing traditions and creating new ones. It's about bbq, burgers and dogs on the grill, ice cold beer and a flask of some kind of dark liquor in your back pocket. It's about setting up the tent, firing up the grill and crankin the music up while you and your best buds throw the football. It's about friends, family and everything in between. It's about a common cause - Gamecock Nation coming together and supporting our team. It's about our first SEC Championship, beating Clemson on their own field, and earning the respect of our peers. It's about making Lee Corso eat his words, making Tommy cry on national television (again) and shutting down Know-sho Moreno. It's about taking revenge against Vandy, UT and LSU for last year's wrenching defeats. It's about closing the season out with 5 consecutive WINS. Most of all, it's about our community - this University helps define our city, our state, and most importantly ourselves.

We are Carolina.

GO COCKS!!!

To me, being a Gamecock is more than sports. It's family. I went to my first football game at Williams-Brice before I could even talk. I've been going to games now for 25 years. But what is special to me is the fact that my uncle graduated frim USC, two of my aunts, I have three cousins at USC right now, a fourth soon to follow. And once I get done with all this tech school mumbo jumbo I can't wait to be a part of a family tradition. For me, the best day won't be our Gamecocks winning a NC, but it will be when I actually get to hold my degree in my hands and know that our family tradition has continued. And hopefully in 12 years my son will a freshman at USC, so long as that's where he chooses to go. I love my Gamecock sports, like all of us do, but being part of the Garnet and Black means a lot more to me than football.

BTW, The season starts in 20 days......................GO Cocks!!!

It means being able to sleep soundly on Friday nights knowing that your team will never run out on the field the next day clad in nothing but purple.
