You and I experience the exact things at each game... weird... haha...
You will come early and leave late... You will be begging for another game... just one more... If you're anything like me, you will have to be drug out of the stadium at the end of the game...
In other words:
It's one of the top 5 most amazing things you'll ever experience!
GO COCKS I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

i've posted before about my first game, 1978 vs. Ole Miss, we were down with only seconds left and we come back to win on a huge pass and i miss it walking down the ramps, i tried to run to the edge of the ramp to see but missed the play.

Carolina vs Eastern Michigan. 2000:rotfl:
I was like 11 but man I loved it so much we had stormed the field the 2 weeks before so I assumed we had to do it that game too. We scored 2 touchdowns in about 30 seconds at one point in the game.
My first SEC game was the Alabama game in 2001. That year I was wiser about football and when we beat the almighty crimson tide I couldn't help but cry a little. Was also at the Florida game in 05 I lost my voice and in the fourth quarter got sick about 3 times from screaming so much.
But my best expierence was against Clemson last year. The 2001 made WAY more excited than it ever had. I know we lost but that was my favorite game that I have been too. I got so pumped during 2001 I was jumping around pushing random people it was amazing.:rotfl:
Point is you will love it more than anything. I'll be there the 28th also.

My first Carolina game was in September 2, 2000. It was my first year as a student, and we beat New Mexico State 31-0 to break a long winless streak. The students went nuts and ripped the goal post down. The next week, we beat Georgia.......... and the goal posts came down again. Talk about excitement in that stadium.... holy COW! Was an interesting first experience :)

As opposed to telling you MY first game experience, I'll tell you my daughters...
I've been a fan for over 20 years but have never taken my daughter to a game until last year. Her being 6, I figured it was time. Her first trip to WB was the UK game last season. Anyone at that game will tell you it was the loudest the statiums been in quite awhile...even through the rain that evening. Theres just something about 80,000, with varying degrees of intoxication, being soaked and the gamecocks being ranked in the top 10 that got that place rocking. Anyway, my daughter being six and a little not used to the noise level had her hands clinched tightly over her ears during 2001 because the place was rocking so hard. I was thinking to myself, shes not going to care much for this. However, by about our 3rd 1st down she was up and cheering 'Another Carolina 1st Down!' with all the rest of us. By the 2nd kick off I had to nicely as I possibly could explain that she couldn't say 'Ass'. Instead, I told her 'Gooooo COCKS! FIGHT! WIN! KICK BUTT! worked JUST as well. She had a good time her first trip and I'm proud that I took her.
Trust me....your fella will be swollen with pride at you being there...welcome to the fold.

I am stoked!
My first USC game was the season opener in 1987. We were playing Appalachian State, and I was 12 years old. I hadn't really been paying attention to USC (I was focused on the Falcons), but my oldest brother talked about them all the time. And, well, since he had gotten tickets, and his wife was pregnant with their first child, he invited me.
We came up I-20 from Augusta, and went all the way to I-26 to get into Columbia. I remember stopping for sandwiches at Subway, and then starting up the hill on Assembly Street. As we continued on, we finally got to "The Spot." You can't see it as well now with all of the new construction, but just as you really topped the hill on Assembley Street (I think it was at the corner of Greene)...Williams-Brice Stadium came into view. At that time, it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
We parked at the fairgrounds, pulled out the cooler, and started my first college football tailgate. I still remember listening to the radio and hearing about the scores of the other games. We found an open area (we had gotten there plenty early) and tossed the ball around. We read Gamecock Fever. It was great. Eventually, he told me that it was time to head into the stadium. I was so excited...and yet I didn't know what to expect. I knew he loved the Gamecocks, and he told me that the entrance was pretty cool (understatement) but he didn't go into it more than that.
Well, we got up to our seats (East Upper) and had a FANTASTIC VIEW of the field. We were there early enough that the USC Band was entering, so we watched them as well. We watched warmups (passing, punting, etc) all the time talking. HE was explaining to me the difference between college and pro football, giving me background on USC and App State, etc. Then he said, "Oh yeah, be ready to get LOUD when the team comes out." I had no clue.
We stood for the Star-Spangled Banner. And we stood for the Alma Mater. And then the band formed this really long human tunnel. And I could hear and feel a buzz in the crowd. The fans started chanting something back and forth, from one side of the stadium to the other...and then it hit me
GAAAAAAAMMMMMEEEEE.......COOOOOCKSSSSSS
GAAAAAAAMMMMMEEEEE.......COOOOOCKSSSSSS
And then there was a pop that came from the speakers. I looked at the scoreboard and saw, "In The Beginning...." and then it changed into a revolving Earth. Suddenly my ears were filled with the familiar strains of what most people reocognize as "The Theme from 2001." The fans around me were as loud as I've ever heard. Screaming, whooping, clapping, stomping, slamming their hands on metal seats...it was amazing. Out of (seemingly) nowhere, I saw USC's Mascot, Cocky, standing on a box on the field and going crazy. Finally, as the music hit its crescendo...smoke started billowing out from the mouth of the tunnel...I looked at the scoreboard and the block C with the Gamecock was descending into the spot previously held by the Earth...and BOOM...the players hit the field, and the fans became even louder.
I'm sorry, I can't do it justice...but it is quite the spectacle. And it has changed quite a bit since then. So anyway, I drank about 30 gallons of ridiculously sweet coke, USC won, and I begged my brother to let me come with him the next week. We tailgated after the game...tossed the ball some more. Discussed the game and how AWESOME Todd Ellis and Harold Green were. ON the way home, we listened to the post game show. For some reason, I'm thinking it was Phil Kornblut...but not sure about that. Anyway, I attended every home game that season...and USC eventually became a HUGE part of my life.
I hope you have a great time...but I'm not worried. I feel certain that you'll enjoy yourself.

My first game came during my freshman year in '04. It was the Georgia game. I had seen the team on TV before and I also had listened to games with my dad when he drove me to my baseball games while I was still in Little League. It was awesome to finally get to see a game in person. On game day I made it a point to get there early, I think I was one of the first in the student section, lol. I had chills running through me as 2001 was blaring through the speaker system (which I still get by the way, whether it be on videos or at a game). USC games are awesome, that's all I can say, it does no justice but you have to experience it for yourself to understand.

thats an amazing description of what a game is like
my first game was the '04 UGA game, they we ranked #3 and we jumped out to a 16-0 lead but being a gamecock fan you knew that lead was not big enough, and sure enough UGA came back to lead it 20-16, we had a 4th and 1 inside then ten with like 5 min to go, so i thought IF we scored that would mean we have a really great chance to hold on to the win, and we did a QB sneak with pinkins and got nothing and pinkins ended up breaking a rib and being injured all season, thats was one of the hardest games to loose(there have been a few since spurrier has been here that been tough to loose)
my first game in college was the '06 UGA and i did band my freshmen year but i dont anymore, but anyways i was on the back line of the tunnel right where it turns in towards the midfield logo, and being on the field was a completely different exp, it is so much louder on the field than the stands
but i also got to go to the '05 Florida game, and thats was one of the best exp in my life, i cant describe how good it felt to do the gator chomp back at UF's fan it was electric
but the best game by far i have ever been to was the UK game last year, they were #8 and we were stiffing around the top ten(which was a first for me, since im only 19 lol) at #11, and it was a thursday night game on espn, before the game it poured down rain and i was in a shirt and shorts and was FREEZING but i will never leave a game before 0:00 is on the clock, and this was before the game even started so i thought it was gonna rain all night but right before pregame started the rain stopped and i watched USC beat the #8 team in the country with ease...i couldnt believe how great the stadium was that night, and i gotta say Eric Norwood was a beast in that game.
but yea all i can say is that the games are addicting, once you go once youll have to go again

I was there too! That was a great game!! Unbelievably loud!! My first in the student section with my sister too which made is even better. Probably my favorite game of all time as well. Because of that game, I got smuggled into the student section for the rest of the year. And Eric Norwood WAS a BEAST that night. Man it feels like it was yesterday!! I NEED TICKETS!!!
Anyone know the deal with student tickets this year? I was told I couldn't be smuggled anymore. Is this true?

you can prb sneak in the student section but you prb wont be able to get a student ticket b/c they are now gonna be scanned with the id that was used to get them, so a student can only get one ticket now and its registered to them, like in the past you could get a ticket and just give it to someone and they could use someone elses extra id to get in

This was my first game as you can see we beat the crap out of the mighty god almighty Southern Cal Trojans. and Ive been to many other games and I still get chills whenever I hear 2001 or the crowd do the GAME COCKS cheer or just to be inside the stadium there's nothing like being there. Hope you have a Blast and you had better help pull out a WIN
my first game was in 1980..all i remember was chris norman punting in the lights and having fun..we went sparingly for the next decade and then bought seats. i grew up on tommy suggs and "the voice". listening to the clemson games at noon, hoping they would lose, and then going to ours.

Just wanted to say how excited I am to experience my first ever USC Football game on Aug 28th! I went to the Spring Game this year with my boyfriend (who is the reason why my love for the team is growing.) I see how excited he gets and it makes me excited too, especially everyone's enthusiasm on this site! I was told I would be a changed woman after seeing my frist game! Can't wait to be with 80,000 of my best friends on the 28th!!! GO COCKS!!!:woo:

Only thing that ever gave me the same feeling as my first Gamecock ballgame(back in 84) was the birth of my first child. WOW is all I can say and I still get goose bumps to this day when 2001 cranks up.

My first game attended was during Lou's first season when we played Mississippi. It was an awesome experience even though we lost by almost 4 TDs. The second SEC game I attended was Tennessee in 2000 when we lost to them 17-14 after being up 14-10 late in the game.. that was one of the funnest experiences I had since my dad and I barely were able to buy tickets as we were looking for scalpers to buy tickets from all morning and got lucky to find one with 2 tickets a few minutes before kickoff. I believe that game is top 5 in biggest crowds at Williams Brice.. it was pretty loud and wild that day for sure.

I don't remember who we played my first game but it was in 1988...
and even the wonderful description Cockliv gave of 2001 doesn't begin
to describe the experience of it. The first few notes of 2001 make me get teary eyed every time.. I am misty eyed now just thinking about it!
Of course, I annoy my husband the whole game asking questions the entire game but maybe not so many questions since I've been going to the football clinics every summer that Coach Spurrier holds for us ladies.
The entire gameday experience is intoxicating...exhilarating... just incredible.
Enjoy your first game! I'll be standing up on the ramp behind the band if you want to wave at us

My first was Sept. 1, 1990. We beat Duke. I was 2 days from my 2nd birthday.
My first away game was Sept. 4, 1993 when we "broke Georgia's hearts" between the hedges.

My first game was in 05 when we beat Troy...the second I walked into the stadium and looked at the field I knew I was home.
My second game was also in 05 when we beat Florida...quite possibly one of the best days of my life! I can't wait for the NC State game!

my first game was 05' against Vandy
It was a very bitter sweet victory because Syvelle Newton had just put on an absolute clinic...I believe he threw ran and caught a TD pass that game and I was in absolute shock just watching him. Cutler had a chance at the end of the game with the ball around our own 20 on 4th down and we came up with a stop to win the game and I was in love with the stadium and the atmosphere.
The bitter part was the loss of Newton for the year with his torn Achilles Tendon
Since that game I have done my best to make it to every home game and almost every away game because it is one of the best things you will experience

I don't remember my first game I was so young and I have been going to the games for so long so much of it runs together. It amazes me that there are those who have yet to or who have just recently experienced Williams-Brice. Through all the years I have far from become jaded. I still get the chills during 2001 and honestly sometime when the atmosphere is right and everybody is in the moment....the build up from GAME!...COCKS! GAME!...COCKS!, to 2001 striking up the first chords, Cocky appearing from thin air, then with 2001 winding down, the smoke billowing (I'm getting chills typing this) out of the tunnel, then the Gamecocks running out of the tunnel, and 80,000 people erupting....it is better than sex. During the game the atmosphere does not change, you won't be able to hear yourself it will be so loud.

You will definitely enjoy it. Like everyone else has said, you will be hooked. Especially with it being a Thursday night game on ESPN. My first game of any sort was the 84' Spring game, I was 10. Back then they had a meet an greet with the players before the game on the field. I remember getting tons of autographs. My first game was the 84' Citadel and the 84' Duke games. It was awesome seeing 2001 for the first time. Back then, the city buses use to take you to the game, if you didn't choose to tailgate at the stadium. That was kind of cool back then. I can remember tailgating at the car on some street in downtown Columbia. We sat on the back bumper and ate and the hopped on the bus to the game. My dad and his good friend took me down to the endzone and we watched the teams warm up. It was really fun. Plus who would have known that we would go 10-2 that year.
