I have permission to post that Coach Tanner has informed "The Game" 107.5 host Tommy Moody the SC logo will NOT be replaced and we will continue to use it as is !
The University will release a statement forthcoming.

Screw So Cal.

A couple of times a year I go to San Fran on business and I always make sure I wear something with either SC or USC on it the whole time I'm there. It drives the locals crazy.

Agreed, and the patent office's ruling is ridiculous. "SC" is our official designation used by the USPS and all other legal documents. If they really wanted to bitch, they would have done so about "USC", but I saw that we took that argument from them years ago. This would be an interesting case for our law school students to appeal. GO COCKS!

Isn't it that we can still use the logo, but can't trademark it?

USC West beats USC East in logo flap

When a symbol has been registered on the patent office's primary trademark register, the registrant has exclusive right to use the mark nationwide in connection with goods and services.

"Our initial read on this is that the ruling really has nothing to do with the use of that mark," Russ McKinney, a USC spokesman in Columbia, said Friday. "It just simply says that we cannot get a federal trademark registration for it."

McKinney said the university's attorneys believe the ruling wouldn't "deprive us of the ability to get royalties from the use of the mark."

So we can't trademark the logo. But that means there is no limit on who can put it on their merchandise. There will be plenty of interlocking SC baseball hats. (Which was my first worry)
But how can the university now control who, how and where it gets put onto merchandise?
And so, how can it reap financial benefits from its use?

And so, how can it reap financial benefits from its use? It's gone from having to eliminate it to now worrying about how much money is lost?

Imagine how much would be lost if all the garnet "SC" hats and shirts on the shelves had to be trashed because a court said it's illegal to sell?

Be happy the glass is half full instead of the University ending up all wet.

I just realized something.

The Carolina Band changed the Pre-Game show to include . . . an interlocked "SC"!

Will that have to give that up and come up with something else?
