Some injuries: Jasper Brinkley - left ankle ... Captain Munnerlyn - right ankle ... Jamon Meredith - right ankle ... All are day to day. Nothing serious, according to Spurrier. And Mike Davis has left shoulder injury, and that's all USC will say. USC will scrimmage tomorrow and it's closed to the public.

Jasper went to the trainer's table, and Munnerlyn was treated on the sidelines. I don't think it's too serious... at least we better hope not.

Jasper Brinkley went down with what looked like a left ankle injury during the interception return drills. For those who haven't seen it, the defense drops in a pass coverage and the QB tosses the ball up to a defender. Once the defender catches it, all 11 break down the sideline the ball is caught on to serve as blockers for the returner. Hustling is the key in this drill. When Jasper went to turn, it looked like he tweaked his left ankle.

He stayed down for just a few seconds and slowly got up. He tried for a minute or so to walk it off while talking to a trainer. They then walked over to the training area. Jasper was walking very gingerly but without assistance from the trainer.

Captain Munnerlyn had the ball thrown up to him. When he went to plant, he did something to his right leg, probably his foot. He didn't jump. As you may remember, he got his foot stepped on a few nights ago in practice and has looked in a bit of pain at times since then.

He never went down and tried to walk it off. Another trainer came over to see about him, sat him down and began to look at his right leg. About that time, the SID came over and asked us to leave. It was 7:45, the time we were supposed to be leaving. As we were walking out, Captain and the trainer began to walk towards the training area. Captain, too, walked unassisted but very slowly.

I would rather have these minor(I hope they are minor) injuries now, instead of when we are in the heart of the season... Also, these players do not need as much practice as the younger players on the team.

Title should have read "Practice News - Minor injuries."

At a *minimum* bad to me means something between "x player is sidelined for most of the rest of summer practice" to "x player is out for the season." Nothing you said in your post indicated anything "bad."

Yikes. ease up turbo. we're all dorks with a keyboard here.

Jasper is likely the biggest key to a good season. If he's healthy all year, we have a chance at the SEC east. If he can only play the first half of the season, we could repeat last year's performance.

Cap'n is a big time player too. Though, I think the depth at CB is OK right now. Not great... but OK.

Thanks for sharing GC. Wish these guys a speedy recovery, and like the crowd said to Pepper after his interception at Wednesday's practice, TAKE IT EASY, TAKE IT EASY.

Just to clarify. Not taking sides, I came in way too late on this thread.
But Spurrier said he expects Mike Diesel to miss about a week. Not too bad.

By the way, Spurrier said on rivals that when Davis slipped he dislocated his shoulder, although he wasn't very firm in his assessment/statement. He said the trainers said about a week but IMO shoulders can be very tricky, especially for a RB taking all the hits.

LOL!!! Yes we are dependent on a few players! Are you kidding me??

Brinkley, Munnerlyn, Meredith, Cook, Davis, and a few others ALL OUT with injuries, and you think that isn't significant? LOL!!!!!!! THAT'S THE TEAM BRO!

It may be a day, it may be a week...it's still missed practice any way you slice it.

Better than this.

http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2008/aug/07/nelson-needs-knee-srgery-wont-play-2008/

They are already really thin at DT. The vol fans say they only have three guys at the position now who are servicable.

oh and...fwiw

USC starting quarterback Mark Sanchez was carted off the field at Friday's practice with an apparent knee injury.

Sanchez, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound junior, won the starting job this spring over 2006 Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain.

Sanchez collapsed to the ground during stretching drills before practice in obvious pain, Los Angeles media reported.

The severity of the injury was unknown Friday. Coach Pete Carroll was expected to address the media after practice.

:clap:That is why "depth" isnt just a buzzword coaches and fans use. It is a vital part of the football machine. The chances of playing an entire season in the SEC without injuries to "important" players is nearly zero. We dont need to go through all of the injuries LSU played thru to win the MNC? Do we??? Or so on and so forth.

Did you miss the part about shoulder surgery? :-|

Nobody missed that part- it has been known for two days Mike hurt his shoulder, it has also been stated by SS that it was minor and he will be back in about a week.

You all should be ashamed of the way you attacked GC for trying to pass on some info from a CLOSED PRACTICE! Good work GC, points sent...

As for Evil cock's statement about "still missed practice"... May I quote AI?

"PRACTICE??!!??! PRACTICE? We talking about PRACTICE here??"

LOOK: the people who might miss a practice or two are guys like JB, Captain, Mike Davis... Meaning some of our BEST and most EXPERIENCED players. Guys like that do not need practice nearly as much as the players behind them do. Having JB sit out for a couple nights or Mike or Captain will give the guys behind them- that are going to have to provide our depth this year- a shot to work out a little more with the first teams and get more experience in Fall camp than they otherwise would have. I see this as being the positive behind the mild negative of a couple little ankle "rolls"...

At one point this Summer SS had to sit Kenny down at the end of a couple practices just to let the other guys catch some balls.... You know why- KENNY DOES NOT NEED TO PRACTICE... Neither does JB, Captain, or seniors who have played int his system their whole career like Mike Davis... Nothing to worry about, as long as they ARE minor... "Nothing to see here, move along folks..."

Ohh and in summation, the opening line of this article:

http://www.thestate.com/gogamecocks/story/484656.html

Says "BRUISED" left shoulder for Mike Davis...

GC, what you did was commit only a small thoughtcrime. "Bad" is ungood here at the most. Thank you for the info but please adhere to the rules of this board until orthodoxy is unconsciousness.

get a life! it's part of football. Too bad we're dependent on a few players.

That's the big difference in the upper tier SEC teams and where we are at this point. When UF has a major player go down, they just pull the next 4 or 5 star off the bench and never miss a beat. It can be devastating to USC when you are only 1 deep. That's where recruiting those higher rated players pays off. Well they have 2 weeks to shake it off. I hope Jasper's ankle gets to 100%.

Couldn't agree more. Practice allows some players like these to stay sharp. We have a huge amount of players who are works in progress and they need a huge amount of work.
