-- Spurrier said some members of the football team have been attending Pilates classes. Spurrier dismissed the myth that Pilates is strictly for females, saying he participated in the classes as well. Have the classes done any good? Spurrier said the Aug. 28 opener against N.C. State will provide the answer.
Interesting to say the least

They increase core strength I believe. All quarterbacks are required to take them, so I'm sure a few other positions do as well.

He's been sending QB's there since he's been here. There's another thread on it. That's where Beecher was when he found out he was the starter. Nothing new.

It really increases flexibility, balance, and mind-body coordination.

Yeah, this is an alternate form of exercise. It shows our team and our coaches are not against trying something a little outside of the box....
Not even that far outside the box.... If you ever had the ESPN pro football game for Xbox, this was an alternate training technique option in that VIDEO GAME.. IE; it is so widely used by athletes, they put it in a game... LOL nothing new here....

You may laugh but my entire infantry company in the Marine Corps had to do pilates. We had this huge metal structure that we called the thunder dome that a women would come and get up on a stage and instruct everyone with her microphone. I am here to tell you that stuff is no joke. We also had to do that step exercise thing with the techno music and that whipped just about everyone's asses. Marines were almost passing out after that was over.

Pilates, Yoga, Tae Bo.....shoot man, pick one. I've done all three of those, and I can personally vouch that they are excellent forms of workout, and that is double for football players. For one it increases flexibility which helps to reduce cramping and overall injury potential. And that is very important in athletes who do a lot of muscle building since that type of workout generally tightens the muscles.
The other thing those workouts provide is a way to work muscles that normally don't get the benefit. Just like swimming is generally accepted as a means to work out under developed muscles.

definitely a good idea for those players not trying to build muscle for strength. might need to get cap in there with all the cramps he has been having.

I should read the forums.lol Too much "new posts" for me.
Anyway, pilates for the players sounds good, now if Tammy suggested it I would be skeptical.

Cross training is important. You want weight training for strength, running for speed and endurance, and you need a flexibility workout of some sort I am sure this helps.

If Tammy uses this I'm sure he makes all the players wear tights and installed hidden cameras.

Pilates is a great workout I just hope that after seeing success from the guys who did it this summer other players don't decide to do it mid season. No matter how much in shape you are, when you start a Pilates program you get very very sore.

Pilates is a tough workout. I don't know why it has a negative or feminine rap... pilates is a beast and will wear down even the most dedicated weight room junkie
