Should be good, he's competing mainly w/ the DE out of UNC. I think he can beat him out.

Will it be on tv?

check your local listings too. CBS says they're showing here in the greater Charleston area, according to Comcast at least. if not, 94.3 might have coverage.

From the Panthers website, about Casper.

How is Casper Brinkley doing thus far and do you anticipate him still being on the roster at the start of training camp in Spartanburg?

Shane Dial
Well, I'm not going to get in the business of predicting roster spots. That is for the coaches to decide, and their eyes are far more trained than mine. But as for Brinkley's progress, I caught up with him Thursday, and he said he's just now getting to the point where he's able to react and not think – a major step forward considering that the playbook is "four dictionaries" thick, as he puts it.
http://www.panthers.com/panthers/uploadedImages/News/Articles/080606_brinkley_casper.jpg
"Coming from college and learning a bigger and more complicated playbook slowed me down at first, because I had to think a lot," Brinkley said. "But every day I come out here and learn something new. I work hard at it, and every day I can see the progression."

Yep. Look out for #64.

Some dates to keep in mind:

August 26th: NFL Rosters cut to 75 players

August 30th: NFL Rosters cut to 53 players (FINAL CUT)

Not to rip on Casper, but I doubt he'll make the final cut of the 53 man roster. He'll prolly be practice squad because we already have a few young ends that have already earned their playing time on the 53 man roster.

A recent article I read had Pep, johnson, mcclover, and brayton on the team with need for a 5th either rookie hilee taylor or casper.

Exactly. He's sure as hell has a shot. Even if he doesn't make it, b/c of their lack of depth at DE, whoever loses the battle for that 5th spot more than likely will be signed to the practice squad.

Casper didn't get much of an opportunity to shine. Lots of 3 step drops by the QB. He was negligible in run d. Didn't get much seperation from the beast RT he was matched up against. Did have the one sack. Can't really tell what type of motor he has out there b/c of the 3 step drops. Hopefully he looks better next week before they trim the roster to 75.

However his competion Hilee Taylor had his name called 3 times with some nice plays.

Great sack by Cap. Did not bite on the play fake, ran down the big QB, and threw him with authority. LOVE IT!!!

Casper has much better size and upside to me than Taylor.

On the 4th and 2 play in OT Taylor held his ground OK and finished off the runner afterwards and got up like he was a star. A DT on his side actually was the player with penetration and from the back side CAP took his man all the way to the ball carrier backside and was held badly (no call). The announcers pretty much sucked on that one. Giving the credit to Hilee.

I love Casper (in a football way), but Hilee Taylor is a physical specimen - 6'6 230-240 pounds and runs a 4.6ish 40. The only reason why he wasn't drafted higher is because he played against crappy competition with an even crappier supporting cast.

Casper will make some team's roster, but the panthers have a bunch of young ends and backers so hee might have to come up through another team.

Without the garnet glasses..I expect Carolina to keep Taylor because of "potential". Right now though I think Cap is better because of his smarts and motor.

McNasty
08-10-2008, 01:43 AM
by the way, that wasn't a sack, IT WAS A FREAKING BODY SLAM! he lifted him off the ground. Casper doesn't play around.

Taylor had a great night too though. he got more opporitunities that Casper because of the plays the Colts ran to that side, but i'd say it's still up in the air. wont know til game 4 fellas.

Just got in for the night and reading up on this thread. I cant tell your guys how much I was waiting for Cap to get on the feild tonight. I kept looking for #64 to show up an oh how he did. Regardless if he makes the team.. I watched him all night on the sideline and the guy was pumped from the first play. He constantly was jumping up an down and keeping loose, waiting on his number to be called and he made the most of it. Proud to say he was a GAMECOCK.

That is great to read! I woke up this morning and read the box score for the game and they do not have Brinkley listed for a sack on yahoo sports box score for the game, but the Cockytalk faithful tell the real story, Thank you!!!!

here's something enlightening.... remember in OT, Colts 4th and 1, they were stopped? well...

Facing fourth-and-one from there, the Colts went for it and failed as Casper Brinkley stopped Chad Simpson for no gain, giving the football back to Ricard and the offense.

Sorry but that is just wrong. Hilee Taylor is 6'2" 250. Casper is is 6'2" 259. They are simliar DE. Gary Williams refered to both of them as being similar "light DE's" several times last night.

I am glad that the film told the truth because the announcers were lost during the game giving the credit to Taylor when Cap took his man all the way down the line backside to get his feet, while being tackled by the the lineman.

Cory Boyd will be picked up again by the Bucs once his knee is done healing, at least that's what I've heard.

He was listed at the NFL Combine and then on draft day at 6'6 230 so that's what I going with. A guy doesn't shrink 4 inches in a matter of months.

Cory Boyd was never cut from the Bucs. He was put on waivers, since no one took him off waivers he will be on the IR and we will not see him play until next year, but he is a Buc and getting paid.
http://www.theledger.com/article/20080726/NEWS/807260471/1254&title=Bucs_Back_to_Work
The Bucs placed seventh-round pick Cory Boyd on the waived/injured list because of a knee injury. If no one picks up Boyd off waivers, he would revert to Tampa Bay's injured reserved list.
