Not necessarily. If anything, I'm taking this as a GOOD thing because our Secondary has already proven it can play with the big boys. If our offense is finally able to throw the ball of them, I'm taking it as our offense (at least as far as the passing game goes) is taking a turn for the better. I'm feeling better and better about the season as it comes along.

Wallace must be in the dog house!

I dunno, it's strange....Wallace did play in the scrimmage, according to the stats, and he caught a 25 yard TD pass......but not one single carry.......

Here's the receiving stats:

McKinley: 2-38
Maddox: 3-31
Saunders: 3-36-2TD
LeCorn: 1-5
F Brown: 2-36
Rank: 2-12
Prochak: 2-19
J Barnes: 2-22-1TD
Hills: 1-13-1TD
Wallace: 1-25-1TD
Baker: 1-5
Clements: 1-17
Spurrier: 1-8

That's 4 players with TD catches, and pretty much the entire receiving roster PLUS the kitchen sink getting involved in the receiving.......great sharing and distribution of the ball by our QB's, and they still completed 61.5% of their passes! Spurrier has to be pleased with the passing, even if he'll probably not be with the rushing.....

I'm really crossing my fingers that the good news about the OL holds up in the season. These guys, especially with Beecher emerging strongly in practice, hold the key to how good our offense will be. Judging from the analysis of practice reports and what I've seen of practice so far, I dare say that this is the best we have looked in fall practice since... well, ever as far as I know. I'm not particularly worried about our defense, but if our offense continues to step up and improve, I may be tempted to up my season win total from 8. I'm not their yet, and I wanna see us on the field before we do so, but so far, it's looking promising from a guy that didn't really get hyped up from the practices the past 3 years.

I think this will be Bobby's role this year..... 3rd down and long, catching passes...... as long as he can block the blitz's. But I think this 25yard touchdown is indicative of what we will see from BW..... still think he will break some long ones this year.....

The Secondary will be fine. We don't know who he was throwing against. Considering that he is the 3rd team QB, I don't think it would be the starters. Even so, maybe it's a sign that he's actually coming around somewhat. If our QBs can pass on our Secondary, they have the capability to pass on anyone in the country.

Oh yeah, and I really hope Maddox can step it up some. It'd be nice to have a good #2 option at RB. I hope the vision thing isn't true. If he can correct that problem and make plays on his own instead of going with what's there no matter what, he could blow up on the field with his talent. Other than the rushing stats though, you couldn't ask for better scrimmage results IMO.

The funny thing about Maddox is, coming from T.L. Hannah, he was running behind an OL that was awful, so you would think he would have that vision to find the open space. You would think that would be one of his strengths.

One more comment... I have to say it's going to be impossible to gauge how good our rushing game and rushing defense will be until the season starts. This is taken into account that neither of them were particularly spectacular last year. The Secondary, OTOH, has proven itself and is easily the best part of the team we have returning. If we can throw on them as effectively as we are now, I think we can be a pretty damn good team if our rushing stats improve to at least average... especially the D.

Renegade68

Just watched the highlights on HBC.com. Just a few observations:

Saunders is a beast. He looks like he's always running down hill. (sorry if that doesn't make sense, its just an observation)

Garcia is special when scrambling. FYI, the pick he threw was to Captain, so he wasn't facing scrubs in the secondary.

Barnes and Hills both got nice separation to grab their TD passes.

Our WHOLE TEAM needs to step it up a notch... the guy wasn't saying that they didn't do well (ok maybe he was, a little)... what i'm hearing from usc1 is that we just gotta amp up the effort... if we seriously are one of the tops, we oughta not be giving our RS freshmen QBs anything... especially since he's only run the scout team in practice...

i hear ya man!

What i think the ENTIRE TEAM needs to do is put the gas pedal down to the floor and don't take it off until after the first week of January, baby.. practice, games, give 100% the entire time and DONT LET UP!!!

I have been told that the OL we see now very well may be the OL for NCSU and beyond ... some have stated they think king will move to DL or not play at LT but i have heard otherwise and actually heard that Kings athleticsm is really impressing our coaches ...

plus that would allow us to move meredith to a G spot and could add more talent (seasoned and raw) to the OL ...

OL has been a concern for me as well as many other here so TIFWIW ... Just what i have heard ...

Offense catches a spark in scrimmage

QBs Beecher, Smelley combine for four touchdowns

Since Steve Spurrier is his offense’s harsh critic, his reaction to Saturday’s scrimmage qualified as glowing.

That was unusual. But as Spurrier pointed out, so were the five offensive touchdowns, the quarterbacks who could scramble, and the completion percentage.

“Yeah, it wasn’t quite as sloppy as most of ours have been lately,” Spurrier said, alluding to the eight-interception spring game. “So it was a little bit encouraging.”

To me, the name that jumps off of the page is Freddie Brown 2-36. To me, that says a lot for him. Maybe he's finally gotten everything together to have a solid season.

I've been a huge fan of Freddie, and always thought he should get more balls thrown his way. I guess he just doesn't get it done in practice because he has made some great catches in the real games. He never seems to drop them, and always is dependable for getting a first down on a 3rd down throw.

I see Moe has moved in front of Dion. That's pretty good. I don't think Dion has gone down any, but Moe has just really stepped his game up, and we may get to see another All-SEC WR.
