Honest opinion? I think you guys will have a very good football team, but your schedule is too brutal to really run the table IMO. I think UGA goes 9-3 losing to us, Florida, and Auburn.
You're probably thinking I'm crazy saying we'll beat you guys, but I certainly think we match up better with UGA than UF and LSU. I expect another close, defensive struggle. Our Secondary will be the best in the SEC, and will keep Stafford in check. Moreno will be a major problem, but our Run Defense will be vastly improved with many of the starters from last year's injury plagued defense coming back and a Defensive Coordinator that is the master at stopping the run. He'll still get his yards though. Of course, we aren't exactly going to light it up on a tough UGA defense either. I'm giving us the edge emotionally because it's a home game, and we got the better X's and O's coach IMO. It'll be damn close though, that's for sure.
As for Florida, I think they'll be the best team in the SEC (No offense) and will win the NC. The Gators are going to roll this year. Auburn will return a solid team, and they'll be looking for revenge from last year's loss. However, UGA should win solid against everyone else on their brutal schedule, and they could definately beat us or Auburn. To be honest, I see the best at 10-2 and the worst at 9-3.
And as for Basketball... it's football season. I'll talk about it when it comes around.

I seriously doubt that Richt and Co. look past any SEC opponent. They are too good of a coaching staff to do so to be dead honest. We were simply the better team that day and were clicking the whole night. End of the season... different story entirely.
UGA will be motivated, but we've got just as much on the line as well. Spurrier will always get his team up for the Dawgs, and this season is at a crucial crossroads for his era here. Winning against the #1 team in the country will be the signature win we've needed for over 100 years perhaps, and it has the potential to do something never done here before if it rubs off of the talent we have accumulated. I don't think we win the SEC in any case, but a victory over the #1 team in the country would certainly be a HUGE step in that direction for the next couple of years.

Don't get me wrong, it's certainly plausible and I feel comfortable saying that now with the talent we got now. Hell, if we get the exact same lucky bounces we got during the 2005 season, I'll go out on a limb and say we win the entire SEC. But still, while luck has somewhat of a role to play in winning championships, talent builds the foundation and is the main ingredient along with coaching. I feel comfortable saying we have the coaching, and I also feel comfortable throwing our starters against any team in the country right now. However, while our depth is deep and talented, they lack experience and they are just a TAD young (although not nearly as young last year). I'm referring to Culliver, the Barnes, Geathers, ect. Once these guys really mature and get some valuable playtime, that's when I think we'll really start to shine. I'm predicting a 2009 SEC Championship trip for now to be honest, since our schedule will be a little easier and we'll be led by a very good group of seniors and juniors with quality backups to navigate through the SEC Schedule effciently.

i kninda agree with this statement, but first off i think SOS is the best coach in the SEC, then i personally have meyer as being the 2nd best, and i would put richt 3rd just b/c he has had talent but has been unable to win a NC, and i know he has a hard schedule to play but so did LSU last year and UF the year before that so thats y i think meyer is 2nd

My thoughts exactly. The way I see it.....to be the best you have to beat the best so all the talk of tough schedules preventing someone from winning a NC is complete bull. If you are the best of the best then you are going to have a tough schedule and week after week you are gonna go out there and show why you are NC material.

That is College Football where the year matters as much as the record
Richt's 2002 season would have gotten him into the nc in 2003, 2005, and 2007. Heck his 2005 season would have gotten UGA into the NCG in 2007.
Tuberville's 2004 season would have gotten him into the NC in well....almost every other year BUT 2004

Yeah, but in 2006 I believe they lost to UK and Vandy. Losing to teams they shouldn't lose to in 2006 had them behind the eight ball going into 2007. Getting to the NC game really involves more than one year's record.

True Freshman at QB, loss of 3 starts on OL, loss of their huge starting TE, and yet they still won 9 games and finished in the Top 25
And people look at that as their only "down year" under Richt (not including his first year)
I would love for those to be our "down years"

Don't know what their record has to do with our's in this discussion. They still shouldn't have lost to UK or Vandy, or at least they shouldn't have been in position to. Who's responsibilty was that? Mark Richt's. They got lucky to beat Vandy last year, but a win is a win and he gets credit for it. Being good enough to win a NC and winning one is two different things.

Living in a part of SC that is dominated by Ga fans I can't tell you how tired I am of hearing this. We seem to match up well with you just about every year and last year we won. I watched that game again a few weeks back and our defense won that game, it was not handed to us or looked past. I think we match up just as well this year and I look to see the smae type of game going at it for 4 qtrs.
For some reason the Ga fans around here think that there going to come here and run up the score like some kind of vendetta from last year. If your team has the same mind thought than there doomed because we will be fired up for some physical football.
The one thing IMO that favors us is that you won't be tested your first 2 games playing Ga Southern and Central Mich. NC State and Vandy may not be power houses but I see a much improved NC State team with something to prove and Vandy is still an SEC opponent so hopefully we will be going into this game with momentum and confidence.

Spurrier could probably have already 're-earned' if he had say, gotten hired at LSU instead of Miles(in whatever scenario that could have happened). I do think he underestimated how hard it was going to be here and is just now re-dedicating his intensity to get us there. I believe he would have UGA about where Richt has them right now, but Richt will be better for them long term merely due to his age.

Why do you rank Richt so highly? I agree he's a good coach...but the best? He hasn't even been in a NC game
Why do you rank Richt so highly?
Who wouldn't?
He has been a Head Coach for 7 years now. Won less than 10 two times (8 wins in '01, 9 wins in '06), 2 SEC Titles, 3 East Titles, 70+ wins. I mean, we can hate UGA all we want but those numbers are impressive
Meyer is looking to eclipse that too in his first 6-7 years at UF AND has a NC already.
Meyer is a douche & Richt needs to step out of the damn tanning booth but both men are extremely good coaches and chances are both will end their careers with NC's (possibly multiple ones) by the time they are done.

My personal opinion is this...Georgia has a very good team this season without a doubt. Their finish over Hawaii last year is the reson why they are a preseason top ranked team.We lost our last 5 games and lose a talented starting QB.
OUR preseason ranking is lower due to our record last season and the young yet more talented O-Line and us needing a talented starting QB. Not to mention our run defense was darn near last in the country. All the sports writers talk about how our team is needing a QB, questions on our O-line and how Tough our Defense will be this year. I say this.....I would like to see Spurrier put up 50 against Georgia in the Brice because he did it between the Hedges in Athens, and before then, it had never been done. Well I don't think that USC has ever put up 50 against any #1 ranked team in the Brice and I'd like to think that our team would want to do that! You know, So the HBC can make history again! I think with the team we have this year, WE CAN DO IT!!!

Curious why some of you are certain Florida will be better.
OFFENSE: UGA = good UF = great
DEFENSE: UGA= very good UF = bad
And I'm being conservative. UGA has more playmakers on offense than it's had in many years. It's deceiving to go by what UGA showed against USC early last year, when its OL was basically lost. It and the defense were pretty strong by year's end and nearly all of the players are back. Strongest dog team in a while, schedule is the only problem. Florida's D might improve but it didn't do that during the year. Was lost the second half of the season last year, couldn't stop Michigan at all and has now lost SIX safeties. With a questionable DL.
Don't forget UT either. They're under the radar. New QB and offensive system but a very good OL and running game. Not sure about their defense.
Summary: UGA got stronger, UF got weaker and is much more dependent on one guy. Why will UF be much better this year? just curious. Gonna be an interesting year for the top four of the east.

UF's defense was one of the youngest defenses in the SEC if not the country last year. The pass defense was terrible at stretches but that was due to youth. Everyone of them has a whole year of experience and will only get better. If there was a spot that UF could lose players it was at safety. Major Wright is still there and we be joined by the #1 recruit in Will "the thrill" Hill. Dont think they are slouches in any shape. The DB's got better as the year went on but had to face some really great WR's and a few QB's that werent slouches by any stretch. The LB's will battle for one of the best groups in the SEC. The d line will be just fine anchored by one Carlos Dunlap.
And to say UF didnt get any better and actually worse is just simply uninformed to the max. The offense they will put on the field will be even better and the reliance on Tebow will be less. The addition of Emanuel Moody and the emergence of Chris Rainey will weaken the load on Tebow in the running game, Percy is still there to get his yards. Dont forget the names Jeff Demps and Deonte Thompson either. Demps is the fastest guy in college football and Rainey along with a few others can take that title away at any time. Oh and if you havent heard Percy Harvin put on around 15 pounds to reach the 200 mark. He is benching 400lbs right now and is just as fast and now can run through tackles.

Georgia got lucky last year against Florida.... Tebow was injured, and still put up 30pts on UGA... And Florida has pretty much owned UGA in the last 20 years... I do not see UGA beating Florida 2 years in a row... It might take 45pts for Florida to win, but I would not put that past Tebow to do...
And to say UF didnt get any better and actually worse is just simply uninformed to the max.
You gave up 35 points to end the year. 20 points to FLORIDA ATLANTIC, 22 points to Vanderbilt, 31 point to US, and the list goes on if we went further back. Your D still was not very good whatsoever towards the end of the year.
Not only did UF's D look bad most of the year but it got physically beat DOWN in major parts of their major games which is never a good sign
I am sure UF fans will want to believe that another year will equal much better results but if the same players see the field this year as last, I doubt that much improvement will come about.
UF will probably lose 3, maybe 4 games, again in 2008 and I expect us to have a good chance of being one of those teams.
O. C. Aderhold
08-11-2008, 03:23 PM
I agree. I watched UF pretty closely, and I didn't see improvement. The bowl game ended with Urban basically throwing his seniors under the bus. A ton of attrition last couple of years too. As for UGA "getting lucky," you said it yourself. Tebow still had a big day. So how much did his gimped non-throwing shoulder hurt? UGA gave up a pick 6 that actually made the game closer. UF's defensive injuries were bigger than Tebow's, but injuries are part of the game. The Gator here reasons based on a lot of freshmen coming in and doing this or that. Maybe. Urban has recruited very well. My point is that UGA already has the proven contributors particularly on defense. I think UF will be a very strong team, just don't see why they're guaranteed to be better than last year's #2 national that brings everybody back and beat them by 2 scores.

Why is it that no other team can improve except your own? All Ive heard from the large, large majority of SC fans is that their defense will be the best in the SEC if not the best ever. You can not argue that SC's run defense horrid all year. There is no chance of SC beating UF if you cant stop the run and I dont think you will be able to even with your defense from the beginning of last season. UF lost one key player to their defense and that was Harvey. The other losses are being replaced by much more talented players and thats only one or maybe two freshman that will be starting.
