View Full Version : Ever wondered why teams seem to be so pumped to play us on our own field?

I was thinking about this and I am not suggesting we change anything but.....
If you were standing in the opposite tunnel and you were hearing 2001, would you not get goose bumps and get pumped too?
Think about it, alot of other entrances in college football, really only the home team can take in. Notre Dame slapping the sign, Clemson running down the hill, The Big T at Tennessee. But ours, the other team kinda gets to sit back and enjoy it too and get pumped through it. I was watching a video of Clemson getting ready to enter the field while 2001 was going and their players were getting pumped. They started jumping around like ours do. I was just thinking maybe our awesome entrance is why other teams are so pumped to play us on our home turf.

I think your reading too much into it to be honest. Of course Clemson would be pumped to hear our entrance, the same way we are sure to hear their's. Also, I think it is a awesome entrance and once we start dominating the SEC the other teams will be more worried to play there because they will know that an ass whoopin is about to begin. Right now, it's more like yay we are playing the gamecocks, what a fun entrance. In a short while it will be OH GOD NO! How did I get here!

I Have An Alternate Explaination That I think Explains Why Our Opponents Get Pumped Up For Playing Us In The CockPit:
1st off, I also think that 2001 is the best entrance in college football (hell football at any level), and I never cease to get chills when I hear it played before we enter the field. Watching it Live, or on TV. . . .However, for the players, don't fool yourselves into thinking that 2001 gets and keeps us fired up for the entire 4 quarters of play, nor does it fire up and keep our opponents pumped for 4 quarters. Our players love the entrance and show it, but as soon as helmet meets helmet on the opening kickoff, the entrance and 2001 is forgotten. On both sides of the field.
Why opponents get pumped up to play us in the CockPit ?:
Going back 10 years here, because I was too embarrased to go back further when researching this. . . . BUT
Since 1997, our home games record is 38 wins and 40 losses
Take out the 22 out of conference wins against teams like Ball State, Wofford, Troy, U La La, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tenn ST. etc. . . . and taking away the 7 OOC teams we lost to in that 10 year stretch and just going SEC Home schedule. The Gamecocks stand at a dismal 16 wins and 33 losses !
A little extra refining on these numbers and you'll find that of the 16 SEC wins we did have at home in the last 10 years, 12 of those came over Kentucky and Vanderbilt. . . . of the 7 OOC losses taken out of the mix, Clemson has 4 of those wins aginst the Gamecocks here.
THAT'S WHY TEAMS LOVE COMING INTO THE COCKPIT AND GET PUMPED AT PLAYING US HERE. . . . . Has nothing to do with The Theme from 2001

I agree, You can enter to Mary had a little lamb is you whip ass on the field. 2001 is the greatest entrance in college football but that is where it ends. Take care of business on the field and the entrance will get it respect.

Have yall ever wondered what it would be like to not have 2001 played every time. Do you think we will ever get rid of it? What else would be a good entrance for USC?

2001 is the best entrance in sports period. We need to make it not only exciting for the fans but intimidating for the opposition.

Football, more than any other sport, is about emotion. Coaches dont give pregame speeches just to hear themselves talk(well Im sure some do). Now, obviously the "pump up" effect of 2001 and pregame speeches doesnt last an entire game. Other things pump up teams like big hits, turnovers, crowd noise, and clutch plays. But all you need to do is watch the energy level on the opening kick off. Those guys are flying around more so than later in the game in part because they are jacked up for the entrance and pregame speech. The wears off eventually but it exists nonetheless.
Also, have you ever noticed that opposing teams tend to run out right in the middle of the song. You think that is by accident? They get pumped up by all the crowd noise too.

Im not saying the entrance alone makes an impact on the game. But emotion and being "jack up" is an important part of the game and the entrance goes to getting the players "jacked up." There is a reason we have 2001, Clemson runs down a hill, NBA teams have those over the top introductions, and MLB players have their own walk out songs. It doesnt have a major impact but it is a small motivator.

I still have to go with Abba's "Dancing Queen." If getting your butt stomped by a bunch of queers doesn't get in your head, I don't know what will.

I know why Clemson gets so fired up when they hear 2001. Heck they win more often than not when they hear it!!!

This is not by accident, but it's not because they're Jacked Up to the theme from 2001.
It's been well noted since the days of Joe Morrison, that opposing coaches will tell their players to run out onto the field in the middle of 2001. They know our fans won't boo loudly in the middle of our entrance, and they want their players to hear the loud roar when they run onto the field as if it were a home game for them. . . . . This is not a guess or rumor, it has been reported by the ESPN annoucers several times over the past 20 years as well as by Todd Ellis and Tommy Suggs when doing the play by play on the radio.

You'd think we would just put 2 Law Enforcement Officers over there and they could give the Coach their choice of coming out before or after 2001.

Total and absolute silence, all the way up to the kick off. Then we go nuts.

do we not have the right as the home team to designate when the away team comes out? it always pisses me off that they come out during our entrance, but like you said it happens every game with no exceptions

They are pumped up because they think they can win.

i think they are just getting ready for the game ... im sure most teams - UcheaT, Clemson, etc - would rather be playing at home and running out to the T or down the hill in their own house ...
i think 2001 is badass, but i doubt anyone pines away, looking forward to coming to Cola ...

Well all the other teams we play have average entrances, including Clemson. I mean come on, running down a hill with a whole bunch of balloons going up in the air with loud music playing? Sounds like my second grade field day. And i dont blame them for getting pumped. Whoever doesn't get goosebumps after watching 2001 is probably in a mental institution right now. But changing the entrance would be like becoming a new team, you know... It's who we are.

Unfortunately I don't think teams control when their opponents come out onto the field. The NCAA only requires that once the playclock is set to start the game, both teams have to be on the field within a set time before the referee blows the whistle to begin play. If the home teams controled that, there would not have been the incident at the bottom of the Hill a few years back at Clemson.
