The bundled package with the headset will cost the regular 60 bucks. Socom will also be available for download off the playstation store. For how much I'm not sure but probably around 40 bucks.

I'm kinda confused what you mean here....and it's cool to see other SOCOMers. The game was awesome in 2003/2004, but I never got into SOCOM 3 or CA. Hopefully this new game lives up to it's hype

PS-I know notoriety has, but did anyone else use GB for clan matches and stuff? It'd be fun to war some Cockytalkers when the game comes out if so....

I should be on September 12th. I never pre-ordered or bought Qore, but I was told that I will be given a Qore beta key via e-mail by the nice folks at the PlayStation Blog.

The Qore-entered beta will begin on the 12th. I should receive it close to that date.

I got my beta code. I'm downloading right now. See y'all online. Apparently loading is long though, and the game freezes sometimes. Hopefully it's just quirks with launch, and they get that fixed today (in terms of the freezing). I'm sure everything will work fine at launch in October.

As far as gun shooting, whenever I'm in a firefight with a guy really far away, I find it really hard to hit them... I'm not shooting fully automatic. Im tapping one bullet at a time, using m16 and ak 47. But the hit detection is much better. Also look speed is too slow in scopes...don't know why.

I have been playing the Beta for about a day. The servers are messed up but basically they are testing them out and seeing how much they can take. There are long load times.
The gameplay is pretty sweet. Takes a little while to get used to but i like the gameplay. The game should be great when it comes out.

Yeah. Seth, the producer for the game, says everything will be fixed by the end of this upcoming week.

The long load times are associated with the network too, and not the game itself. Once the network issues are worked out, the load times will be short.


It's a really slow-paced game, which I don't mind, but I keep getting disconnected for a few seconds every few minutes, and that takes away from the experience.

I won't get back into it until next weekend as hopefully everything will be running flawlessly by then, and the QORE buyers would be on.


I was huge with SOCOM and SOCOM II single-player, but I never played the multiplayer. This is all new for me.

New beta patch is here (http://socom.us.playstation.com/post/2008/09/SOCOM-Confrontation-Public-Beta-110-Patch-and-Server-update.aspx). Doesn't fix everything, but they'll continue to perform maintenance on the servers daily and patch accordingly.

Of course all these fixes will be on-disc (or in the final downloadable code) at launch in October.

that game was awesome with the exception of one thing: the choppers.



they were really unbalanced and could kill an online match quickly if you wound up on the wrong side of skilled pilot...there just wasn't an effective method of keeping them out of the sky.

thankfully, BF:BC remedies this...the choppers aren't nearly as dominant now (less "health" and a quicker "overheat" on the guns are the two main reasons).

I'm not emphasizing the bluetooth capabilities. I'm emphasizing the fact it's the official PS3 headset.

Before this, there is no official PS3 bluetooth headset.

Unlike the X360, you can use any device you want with PS3. I use a Jabra BT125 bluetooth headset that came bundled with Warhawk. People use their cell phone headsets. Or you can go wired and use a USB headset as I do sometimes (I have my USB headset that I got with SOCOM on PS2).

It's better than those in the market, yes, that's why I posted the video... because it shows why it's better.

I played it this morning before I had to head to work. I love it, the game is actually fun to me now. I don't know how it will be long term but so far so good. Scopes now finally work and this new thing they did to the accuracy really helps me. I can pull off 5+ kill rounds now with ease in pub rooms much like I could in the old socoms. They did manage to mess up the scoreboards now though with the patch. You don't see any names in the scoreboard now and scores don't get tracked at the end of the game. Hopefully they can fix that fast.

I will download the new patch soon. I like the Beta so far, they are making improvements and this should be a solid game by the time it comes out.

There's been massive server problems for it as of last night. I don't have the game yet but I know noone could really play last night online. Considering it is an online game only its probably going to be a couple days until you see a review for it. Knowing how IGN rates their games I'd suggest that this game will get somewhere in the 7's, maybe in the 6's if their experience online is really bad and maybe in the 8's if their experience is good.

The game is pretty cool. The aiming/shooting/recoil has a steep learning curve but if you give yourself time you will be good at it. It is NOT run and gun like COD4. It is a lot slower paced than COD and more team oriented. More often than not if you just run out into the wide open you will be killed. I like it, but I am biased because I liked the previous SOCOMs.

Oh and a lot more people have mics than on COD, if you can believe that.

Yes, the "full" game is out. Some things that I assumed would be in the shipped version are not included yet, but are supposed to be added via updates. Matchmaking, party system, ect.

You can buy it with or without the headset. Its $20 more if you get it with the headset bringing it to about $59.

The best part is you don't have to listen to people's music and other random crap like you do on COD4. In SOCOM you actually use the mics to communicate. It used to drive me nuts on COD listening to all that crap.

Oh yeah, the headset is pretty good. I like it better than my other bluetooth headsets for game play. Its easy to pair and (if you don't pair it with a phone too) works all the time.

Make sure you play respawn rooms until you get the hang of it, or you will be just watching until the round ends if you die really quick. Ranked rooms are no respawn.

SOCOM:Confrontation is a bad game. It may be fun for the hardcore SOCOM fans out there, and there are a good bunch, but WTF?

Why does this game require installation? Warhawk is so much better, and has much more stuff, and it doesn't require installation. Secondly, how dare they put such a big patch like that on release date? They should've delayed the game two weeks before going gold, and put that patch in the code before they shipped it.

I was in the beta, and those patches took a long time for me to download... and I get good speeds when I download from the PlayStation Store.

well ya but when i think of world war II shooters i think of a different kind of game play. granted call of duty has never been about realism but its sad to think how far theyve strayed away from the classic cod game play that made the very first one on the PC so amazing. if youve never played it i HIGHLY suggest you try to get it on your PC immediately.

i have certainly put a lot of time into cod 4, i even played it competitively for a bit on MLG. i just dont get all the new found hype for an expansion pack that they are going to charge full price for. i guess i'm torn on this one, you don't want to stray away from your original formula that made cod 4 so successful but you still need to have something that seperates the game from its original. i was never big on perks to begin with so adding an additional perk doesnt do it for me, and i cant stand vehicles so putting tanks in the game doesnt do it for me either. ill pass on cod waw unless something really catches my eye.

anyways too bad i never really got a chance to play with ya man. if you ever get on the ps3 we will have to change that ;]

Yeah, I was kinda pissed off when they released it and it barely worked but after the last patch I havent had any major issues. Now they are adding dive-to-prone, D-pad leaning, and restricting RPG's and M203's in ranked matches, so I'll be set I think.

Yea wish you would've talked to me first before buying socom. The only thing that is worth getting socom for is the new mic that comes with it. I enjoyed the game when I first got it and played it somewhat competitively on GB for awhile but it really isn't good at all. And this is coming from a hardcore socom fan.

It's sad really a huge franchise such as socom to have such a piss poor game to represent the socom name. The game came out unfinished, with a gazillion of server problems and the game play wasn't too impressive to boot.

Anywho you've seen me on the kz 2 beta if you've been online at all. That game is highly addictive and you will be very very impressed with it. All you have to do is go over to IGN and read their comments on it to see that kz 2 is the next big thing. If I had the money I'd buy resistance 2, fall out 3, and LBP. Unfortunately I can't really afford any games at the moment.

As I've said in this thread, this isn't a good game. I'm surprised the SOCOM Seals were willing to take a part in this one as they have with the franchise's history.

The shooting isn't satisfying, the control mechanics seem off.

I played the beta, and I just couldn't get into it.

I used to play SOCOM for the single-player, but the controls here suck.

i never felt like i could really put anyone down, even with having the drop on them....sure hits never registered....the aiming cursor seemed to be random more than anything. one time you might be right on top of someone, the next time with the exact same aiming, you were off a mile.

i realize it's a totally different game, but CoD4/CoD:WaW got the controls right - you actually feel like you have some control over where the shots are gonna go. i just never got that feeling in this game, and that's really inexcusable for a tactical shooter like this.

very disappointing game. i'm just glad wally world took it back after it was opened.

It was random. Your bullet spread within your crosshair was completely random. Crazy I know and it was something I bitched about on the socom forums big time. They actually fixed it a lil but it still had randomness to it which is bad in any shooter.

In the beta it was much much worse. Your shots were random even when scoped in which is absolutely moronic whoever decided to make it that way. Even while standing still. The argument was that they wanted to make the game more tactical which is absolutely retarded. What pisses me off even more about it was that you had idiots on the socom boards who defending this random bullet spread in the game and saying it was good for the game. These same idiots are the one to blame for the demise of the game. Noone wants to play the shitty game, I haven't logged in awhile but I imagine the online numbers are hideous.

Slant six had the right intentions in mind. They tried to bring the game back to its roots with focus on close quarter combat. Socom 3 strayed away from that but they ****ed up with the original formula too much that made socom so great. I also think as a developer slant six had too much to deal with on socom and couldn't really handle such a triple a title. Should've allowed insomiac or some proven developer within sony to handle the new socom.

GameStop is filled with thieves. I never deal with them when it comes to trades/used games. It's unethical (yet legal) what they do.


Since many bought the game along with the headset, I figured $15 is a good price. Even if it used, they'll get $5 profit since the headset alone would cost them $50 in retail, and I get the game for 62.5% off of the new price.

Tune into Spike TV December 14th to witness the new gameplay footage of God of War III and a reveal trailer for Uncharted 2.

There are a ton of great games, and Amazon has some PS3 games discounted. I would check into such games.
