2008 Game Convention (News Thread/August 20th to 24th)

E3 used to be like this.

The 20th is actually closed to the public, but Sony will be giving its presentation that day. The events that day will only be open to press and those in the gaming industry.

Sony has "12" new announcements to share with us on Wednesday. Now this is a European event, but much of what they will show/announce will be relevant to US PS3 owners as well.

Below are some images of the setups for the game areas. 185,000 people attended the event last year. If you are in Germany (certainly Leipzig), it's not expensive to attend. 12 Euro for a day ticket, or around 30 Euro for the entire 4 days that it is open to the public.

News from the Sony press conference.

• LittleBigPlanet - October 29th for PAL countries
• PSP model 3000 announced (almost same size as Slim&Light, smoother more curved corners, increased intensity and colors to lcd screen (also much less glare), built in microphone. October 15th in EMEA territories. 199euro w/game, Old PSP's will cost 169euro without)
• 160GB Limited Edition PS3 for 449euro (comes included with 70euro worth of DL games) October 31st.
• PS3 controller Keyboard add-on (attaches on top) with touch-pad for cursor control, coming for eight different languages
• Play-TV September 19th
• Vidzone for 23 PAL countries. Free Music streaming PS3 app (Q1 09), no charge. Downloads in Q3 09.
• Go!View Sky Service (PSP) set for Q3 08
• SingStar PS3: You can now rip your old PS2 SingStar games (PS3 firmware upgrade needed)
• SingStar DISNEY announced 'Singalong with Disney'
• SingStar Turkish Party announced
• EyePet announced 'Stroke the animals, draw toys for them' Out next year

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune PS3 Bundle with 160GB PS3 System

The 160GB PS3 system announced at the GC will be available here as part of a new limited-edition bundle that includes the hardware, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune game, a PLAYSTATION Network voucher for PAIN, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller. We’re hearing from a lot of you that more PS3 storage space is important, particularly since the launch of our video delivery service, and this new model delivers more memory and a whole lot of content packed-in. The 160GB PS3 has all of the same functionality as the new 80GB PS3 that’s popping up on retailer shelves now, but obviously has twice the HDD space, so you can build levels to your heart’s content in LittleBigPlanet, download a ton of videos, and still have room for your entire music collection. The Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune 160GB PS3 bundle launches in November for $499.99 (MSRP).
