I have a coworker who doesn't have her windows xp password for her old computer. She needs to login to retrieve information. I know there used to be ways around it on older systems, but does anyone know of a program or way to retrieve this? I am going to ask my brother in law who is a computer admin to help, but it might be a while until I hear from him. Thanks in advance!

Put the hard drive in another computer that already is running windows (add it as a 2nd hard drive). You'll be able to access the files on the 2nd drive while booted off the original.

Yeah I told her that, but it is a laptop and she doesn't really want to go to the expense of a case and all for that to turn it into a USB hard drive.

i don't think that will work if he is wanting to access anything particular to that user. if it was in the Windows directory or the All Users directory...that could work. but access will be denied if you do that and then try to go into the user's my documents or other things that were particular to that user account.

just download the ultimate boot cd... You can use the NTFS file system tools to get in... Just google it and you'll find its website...
