What accessories are essentials (ie cooling systems, probably 1 extra controller, etc.) and which ones work the best?

just trying to figure out total price of everything I need in one big order or might have a list if I actually take the time to go to Walmart I'm lazy

thanks

Are you set on a 360? Have you considered a PS3? I'm just wondering; I like my PS3 much better than my buddy's 360.

idk I did for a time consider the PS3 but the price is kinda high imo, in general I have not really been a fan of Playstation granted with limited play time on the system, I'm open to it but I'd probably have to think it over a while longer

don't get the cooling systems. The nyko intercooler actually raises the internal temperature, rather than lowering it.

The newer 360s are much more reliable than the older ones, but the 3 year warranty will help you out if your 360 dies.

I have both systems, and I play my 360 much more. But they are both great systems, you can't really go wrong either way...

I have both systems as well and all I can say is pick the system that you believe you will play the most and has the best games for you.

Really for the 360 the only supplies you need are probably an extra controller if you are playing with friends. I don't have them, but I've heard the plug and play charge packs are pretty useful for the controllers. Also I can't remember since I got mine so long ago if it comes with a headset, so you need to get one of those if not. Then you need to get a subscription to Xbox Live and you should be pretty set.

Don't buy an intercooler. If it melt the power supply hook up, or shows any signs that it was ever on your 360 and damaged it, Microsoft will not fix it. I have a newer one with the hdmi cable hook up and I haven't had a problem yet. I was flying through the older ones though. Get a store warranty too.

I might break down and buy a PS3 soon if Microsoft doesn't come out with a BluRay add on.

Get a PS3 for more than just blu-ray movie use. Downloadable games, free demos, free online, etc..

Get it for the blu-ray disc games. There are many great ones out, and more coming this year and in the future.

I have both. The 360 is cheaper and has more games. You can download games, movies, TV shows and everything else. No real reason to get a PS3 unless you want Blu Ray. If you are getting a system for games don't let anyone steer you away from the 360. It's awesome.

That said, the PS3 is great too. I am glad I have both so i can have Blu Ray and I can play some of the Sony exclusive games in addition to the games that are exclusive to the 360.

definitely get the quick charge kit along with a rechargeable battery:

(not sure on pricing...just providing a link so you can see what i'm talking about. you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere..i have no idea)

and don't get the intercooler....waste of money as has been stated above.

Do you plan on playing online? If so, and you need a wireless solution, be prepared to shell out $100 for the adapter. You'd be better off going wired if you can accommodate it.

Which flavor of 360 are you getting? (Arcade, Pro, Elite)

I would suggest at least getting the Pro, if not elite. Pro (IIRC) comes with wireless controller, headset, 20gb HDD, and component cables for HD gaming.

In addition get the things others suggested:

Charge Kit
Extra Controller
Wireless (If needed)

I've also got two free months of Xbox LIVE gold if you want them. M$ sent them when my console died, and I've never needed them because I do the yearly subscription.

If you want them I'll PM the codes to you.

alright so I'm looking at my list to start off probably-
Console $259 version
1 extra controller
2 games probably Madden and NCAA for now
and a quick charge kit
mayb the Walmart warranty not sure how much I really would need it, sounds about alll and should last me a few months until I feel the need for a new game ;)

If your box breaks, Microsoft will cover it for 3 years parts and labor, but you gotta wait around 4 weeks for them to fix it. If you splurge and get the store warranty, you can take it back the same day and get a new one.

It all just depends on you patience. I have none, so I wish I would have gotten the warranty, haha.

But like another poster said above, you really won't have to worry about the newer consoles. They're much more quieter and cooler than the originals that alot of us have.

there is no $259 version. The prices just dropped to $199, $299, and $399 for the arcade, pro, and elite packs, respectively

Do yourself a favor and get the pro. Seriously, the arcade is for chumps!

The pro xbox bundle comes with a 60gb hard drive now. The $259 version must be the 20gb version that they are phasing out. If you plan on downloading games, videos and extra game content over xbox live you should get the 60gb version, you'll eventually need the space and for only 40 dollars more it would be worth it.
