Just got done reading the Greenville News sports section. There were a couple of articles about how Dabo is bringing everyone...players, coaches, students, fans, IPTAY, recruits...and they're all joining hands and singing Kumbaya.
Question...Is this another Clemson smokescreen...or can the Dabster revive the Clemson season??? Just wondering what everybody thought.
Yes, I am cynical when it come to what the PR machine in Pickens County releases.
Dabo is pulling all his tricks out of the bag. The sad and sorry truth is that Clemson's football program is the worst it's been since Tommy Bowden took it over. He can't hide that. Basically this act of "kumbaya" is a drug he is trying to get everyone hooked on. Us USC fans were raised to not take this drug.
For some reason I just don't like Dabo. Give it up man.

He can bring them to sit around the camp fire, smoke the peace pipe and sing kum-by-ya.
But can he coach a football team? we will find out I guess.

Mid season last year I posted on a clemscum website that I thought their program was on a downward spiral. They all scoffed and cussed at me. It might be why they don't let me post thier anymore.
Or maybe it was when I compared their cheer leading team to a herd of over milked cows ready for slaughter. Anyway, I am not welcome there.

like the guy said on 104.9 in greenville, the man just needs to concentrate on football. but on the other hand, i like to see them lose!

Why shouldn't he reach out to students and fans? It's not like doing that detracts from the team at all - at worst, it has no effect. As we all know, a large part of coaching college guys is motivating them, something Bowden failed to do. This is at least a start. The outlook for Death Valley prior to Dabo was a half-empty stadium and a dead crowd. He's re-energized the students and the fanbase and there should be a lot more people in the stadium yelling for the team because of that. Win or lose, he's made the season fun again for the majority of the fans, at least for one week. For that alone, I thank him.

Well I think Tommy Bowden "stepping" down is the reason fans are coming together. It has nothing to do with Dabo. If Brad Scott was the interim it would be the same story.
I wonder how long they'll love on Yaba Dabo Doo when they hire another coach after the year?

1/3 of their entire playbook was the Bubble Screen, and that left the field when Dabo booted Spence. Now they're down to Spiller/Davis off tackle and Deep incomplete pass. . . . doesn't seem like a recipe for revitalization to me.

All the newspaper's in Ann Arbor were talking about how Rich Rod was going to bring the Students, Fans and team together up in Michigan when he got to town too. . . . . . . . How'd that work out for them ??
Spiller is sitting out I thought and I would love to see him call a bubble screen on the first play and have it picked off for six.

it worked out great for The Rockets LOL
Question I ask is will McDaniel's girlfriend be invited.

Lol. No; there aren't any stairs at the camp site for him to push her down. Unless he's ok with settling for just a choke, she is not invited.

While I hope they get annihilated every game the rest of the season and close that dump of a school, I actually think the only real effect that can happen has to be a positive one. Spence and Bowden didn't have their hearts and minds... the change couldn't do anything but something good... I expect they'll play harder..
No, I don't think they'll be a good run blocking team.. Korn may be able to ramble around some like Garcia does and that does change how defenses play. Will their ends suddenly stop sucking and become all ACC... no... a couple sticks by a DB and Kelly will go back to hearing footsteps...
We may see the most "positive" effects defensively .. emotion can cause them to man up and just say.."enough is enough".. If that happens, Moo U can win a close game...
I'm hoping for three Korn first quarter interceptions (two go for TD's).. two fumbles, Davis held for minus 50 yards and the defense gets shredded by the Tech option... Hell, I'd be happy if Tech hung half a hundred on them by the end of the second quarter...

Me, either. You've gotta really question the mental acuity of someone who says the coaches and team are going to play "with their hair on fire". That guy really needs to stay away from matches, lighters and other flammable materials!
This is our moment---Our guys have been getting better and better and we now have the opportunity to be a real force in the SEC. All we need to do is to play with the intensity we played with vs. Georgia and we'll win this one, hands-down.
We'll be there LOUD and PROUD!!!
GO COCKS!!!

All of the above. Fans are coming to the game because there's going to be change. Everyone was sick of seeing bubble screens and swing passes (on which our WRs would just get annihilated because the D knew they were coming as much as the fans did). It's a fresh start, and that has fans excited.
I'm definitely NOT saying we will all of a sudden be a great team, or even that we will win Saturday, but I think the team will come out with a lot more intensity than we've seen the past two games.

Not exactly a valid comparison. Rich Rod is bringing in an entirely new offensive system. It was pretty much known that UofM was going to be rebuilding this year. I'm sure you know this too.

did you hear? Dabo is calling for an orange-out...
somehow, this is different than the solid-orange campaign that has been going on at Clemson for YEARS...
Maybe Dabo is one of those that thinks by calling it something different, will make it a new and exciting concept...
But, then again...we ARE talking about Clemson fans...pulling the wool over their eyes isnt incredibly difficult.

Well you aren't around campus or reading Clemson boards apparently, or you'd realize how boneheaded your observation was. Yes, we lost to wake, yes we are losing commitments due to our programs being in a transition period, and... I don't really know what "you have yet to play a game in which to base this yelling stadium claim on" means. But the excitement is back in the fanbase. Sure, it's based on pretty much nothing - the team could come out and look worse than they did last Thursday. But the breath of fresh air Dabo has brought to the program is refreshing for just about every Clemson fan. I assure you, I am NOT the only Clemson fan who is excited about this Saturday. Believe that.
And as far as the "orange out" (I hate "color out" phrases) - you'd be surprised how many people wear white or purple or fratboy pastel colors to the games. I think this Saturday will be Solid Orange in more ways than one.

Given there is some relief from the Clemson fanbase...tell me how this coaching change is going to totally transform a team that has blocked horrendously, passed (and caught) poorly, run ineffectively and been just average on defense.. How is this new "excitement" truly going to change the fundamental execution of what has occurred????

Willy Korn is the only unknown variable at this point. None of Dabo's greatness will provide Clemson with an Oline which is the largest part of their problems.

I never said it would, and I don't expect it to. All I expect is:
1. Death of the bubble screen
2. Increased touches by our playmakers
3. The 3 point stance on the Oline - finally
4. Players playing with a bit more intensity
That being said, I don't expect to see a completely different team than I've seen all year - but I don't think a completely different team needs to show up in order for Clemson to win most of the games left on the schedule. Small improvements here and there can beat teams in the ACC - we will still be the most talented team on the field from top to bottom when we play with the exception of perhaps FSU and USC.

OK
So Dabo is put in as the "Stand In" until they can find a better coach, and starts all this talk about firing up fans and unity among fans, students and players. He says they're going to "Play like their hair is on fire" . . .and all of a sudden this is a brand new team with a lot of excitment surrounding it, and everyone's rejuvenated. . . . . AFTER 4 DAYS, and he hasn't even taken the field as the HC in a single game yet !!
Rich Rod has been in Ann Arbor since the first of the year, has played 6 games of this season and he's all but being run out of Ann Arbor. ????
Maybe I'm missing your point here.
My point is . . . . TALK IS CHEAP. Maybe you should wait and see if letting Bowden and Spence go mid season was such a good idea. . . . .Granted the move was 2 years too late (IMO), but it was classless to force a guy out halfway into a season, and just months after giving him and his whole staff raises and contract extensions.
I think you're going to find out that this is going to do FAR more harm than it will do good to the program. It's already starting to take it's toll in recruiting, and I'd be very surprised if Clemons can attract a decent "name" coach after booting a coach mid season.

I was there against maryland...everyone seemed to be in orange- my point was its nothing new...you've got a "solid orange" campaign! the university encourages this! this "orange out" is NOT new. a turd by any other name is still a piece of crap (this also applies to clemson's playbook...which dabo is retaining)

He's doing a decent job as the athletic director in my opinion.
But seriously, let's be honest. Whenever a team gets a new head coach, this kind of stuff always happens. Things change, and because no one brings in a coach expecting to bring down the team, the changes are immediately tabbed a 'breath of fresh air', 'genius', 'innovative' and what not, mainly because you brought the coach in to win, so you would naturally think what he's changing is going to make you win. You have to actually see how those changes play out before you can really see the effectiveness of them.

I don't know if you're missing my point, but you're definitely taking what I'm saying further than intended. All I'm saying is that I appreciate the energy he is putting forth. Whether or not it wins us any more games this year has yet to be seen (I don't think it will, fwiw). I agree talk is cheap, but WHY NOT try to create some excitement? It can't hurt, can it?
To try and relate (no it's not an identical case, I realize this) - imagine how you guys felt when Lou then Steve were named coach of the Cocks. Now I know it's not the same because these are obviously HOF coaches and Dabo is an unproven assisstant, but the excitement for the fanbase was there before the Cocks ever even hit the practice fields under Holtz and Spurrier.
Not the best analogy - but do you see where I'm going?
I'm NOT saying Clemson will be better, I'm just saying I (as a fan) love what he has done thus far. If it translates to the field - GREAT; if not - he tried, good effort, we move on.
As far as the Bowden situation is concerned, I don't really get why the move is "classless." Just because he just signed an extension he should be invincible until the end of the year regardless of his performance? Tommy, his players, his assisstants, the fans, the administration - just about everyone - knew Tommy was gone after that Wake performance. Why should he sit around as a lame duck coach while everyone around knows he won't be there when the season ends? I mean, the guy is getting paid (well, I might add) to sit at home. It's not like we left him out in the rain. He's well taken care of.
FWIW, I think/hope Muschamp is our coach next year. Regardless of who it is, Clemson will have absolutely no trouble getting a coach due to fallout from the Bowden firing. These coaches are smart, they see the talent on our team, the results so far this year, and the most GLARING - the amount of time Tommy had to win a weak conference. These guys see Tommy wasn't a victim of impatience or lack of talent or support or resources, he just didn't get the job done. The bullsh!t in the media the past couple days about Clemson fans' expectations being too high is ludicrous. In the weak ACC, it's too much to ask for the school with probably the 3rd best overall program in the conference to win once in 17 years? Its too much to ask to even appear in the championship game when Wake, Maryland, and GTech have all either won or made the CG? I think not.
As far as recruiting goes, it will take a slight hit this year, but I have the utmost confidence it will bounce back. If Dabo and Napier remain on staff, it might not take a hit at all. If Dabo isn't the HC next year, whoever we bring in may bring along a few propects as well. Recruiting will be fine. I'll also say this. The guys we are losing right now are the same guys we probably would have lost in the next couple weeks/months or on signing day if we had allowed the Bowden/Spence show to continue. We looked awful the past 6 quarters - no one wants to play for the team that showed up those 6 quarters.
Anyway, that was kind of long and I've been drinking a little so if it doesn't make much sense, I apologize in advance.
