First match was Texas vs Stanford. Texas, led by all-american Destinee Hooker (what a name!, lol) won the first two sets. Stanford came back to win the match 3-2. It was the first time in the 27 years of the tournament that a team had come from two sets down to win in the semi-finals.
Next up was Penn State vs Nebraska (you don't get many "mid-majors" in the final four in volleyball, lol). Penn State is defending national champs and was heavily favored. They had won every match this season 3-0, and took the first two against Nebraska. But the final four is in Omaha this year, and most of the 17,400 fans were for Nebraska. Nebraska mounted a comeback and tied the match up at two sets apiece. They took a 10-8 lead in set five before Penn State called a timeout and was able to regroup and win the final set 15-12.
So it's Penn State vs Stanford saturday night in the final. I don't usually pull for the west coast, but with Penn State being favored I may have to pull for the underdog.
