It's official! We are in the offseason. But you know what that means...
Trivia Time!

I will start by asking a Gamecock related question. The first person to answer it correctly gets to ask the next question, and so on.

I will start with a moderate question:

Which QB did a Holtz-led Gamecock team beat to hand him his only loss as a college starter?

:shotgunc: Fire away!

There are lots of Gamecocks currently in the NFL. Through history, there have been many at just about every NFL team. However, there is one NFL team that has only had one Gamecock player.

Who is that team and who was our player that played for them?

Who was USC first international player?

Without giving away his sport, I can say that he came from the Bahamas.

cockyhoskins
03-13-2006, 05:31 PM
Alright that question was hard. It was Etienne Farquharson, 1979, ’80.

He came from the Bahamas where he worked as a laborer in the salt mines and is currently Chief Councelor of that government.

PaulSercer
03-15-2006, 04:02 PM
I know it's not my turn, but I thought of a good question this morning that I thought I would share. This might be a tough one, so here goes....

What year and who was the opponent when the USC football team came out for pre-game warmups in one uniform and then came out to 2001 in a different uniform?

PaulSercer
03-20-2006, 09:04 AM
It was 1983 vs. Clemson. USC came out in all garnet for warmups and then came out in all black (for the first time) for 2001 entrance. It was the coolest thing I ever saw....

cockyhoskins

I didn't remember the '83 game. But didn't they do it in 1995 also? I remember they were warming up before the Clemson game in garnet jerseys. Taneyhill even did the coin toss in a garnet jersey. Then the team came out to 2001 in Black jerseys. They changed Taneyhill's right there on the sideline.
I like it when they switch things up like that.

cockyhoskins
03-20-2006, 02:03 PM
Welcome Dr. Rumack! I do remember Taneyhill changing on the sideline. That was classic Taneyhill!

PaulSercer
03-20-2006, 04:30 PM
Bryant Gilliard? He had 4 vs. FSU in '84....that's my best guess

Lil Jerry Seinfeld
03-20-2006, 04:33 PM
You're right Paul. He had 9 for the season. I guess it is your turn (especially since it was anyways before I jumped in.)

New trivia question:

We all know that Sterling Sharpe ended a potential Hall of Fame career with a neck injury. Who laid the hit that ended his promising career?

SpuR48
04-04-2006, 01:31 PM
I thought I knew that one, but I wanted to confirm w/ a google search ... this is the most elusive answer I've ever tried to find. I can't even find a concrete source that even tells me what game it was. I thought it was the Tampa Bay game, but then theres some sources saying it was the Chicago game ...

I thought it was John Lynch, but I guess I'm wrong lol

Tough question

Here goes my question. Sticking with the 1984 season when we went 10-2, the season almost started out on a bad note when a potential tie was broken with underdog Citadel. With 1:02 left, the Gamecocks completed a trick halfback pass to set up the go ahead touchdown and win 31-24. Who threw the pass and who caught it?

Blitzer
04-04-2006, 02:23 PM
Quinton Lewis to Mike Hold

Blitzer
04-04-2006, 02:25 PM
Scratch that- Quinton Lewis to Allen Mitchell. Hold did not play until UGA game if I am not mistaken

Nope. You are half right.

Name 4 of the 5 starters for Eddie Foglers 1997 basketball team.

(I'm sure they didn't start for every game, but there were at least four main guys that started almost every game. Name them)

Blitzer
04-05-2006, 09:53 AM

Bud probably doesn't classify as a starter since he shared that with Van Elswick and the only other 7 footer I ever saw that could not dunk

I think the answer you are looking for is 4 in one game by both Pritchett and Dingle. However, two QBs threw for 5 TDs in a game. Taneyhill did it TWICE and Grantz did it once.

COCKDIESEL

Two players that hold the record for td's in a game. Pritchett scored 6td's against Miss St in 1995 and Dingle scored 6 td's against Va Tech in 1990.

I'm guessing the 1985 class with Todd Ellis and Pat Turner. I'm not sure about the TE.

Pat Turner definitely wasn't a Top 10 QB out of high school.

Maybe I'm wrong, I seem to remember both Ellis and Turner being highly recruited.

I do remember being surprised when I saw Hold come out for the first series of the Clemson game. But I was very happy with the results because we had a party in that end zone section of "Dead Valley" that started shortly after the 2nd half began and lasted until the PA announcer informed us that we had to go long after the game had ended. The band director used the cheerleaders microphone to tell all the fans to follow the band and they led a procession out of the stands, across the field, and up the hill. What a day!!!!!

Hold did not start until after the Navy game because Morrison was superstitious. He felt Hold was playing better with all comebacks, but we had not lost. He often said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." He kept many other rituals, etc., the same through the first nine games of the season as well.

My question really was more about why Allen Mitchell never started again - ever for Morrison. We lost several games in 85 but Hold remained the starter even though the 2 QBs were veritable equals for most of their career. My sources tell me Joe made the call that Mitchell wouldn't start again for him after he called his own play in the huddle.

That may be true, but it doesn't make sense to me. We had a lot more wrong than a changed play call in the huddle that day. Morrison and his staff were so quirky, I don't doubt it though.
