I was looking for an easy house plant to take care of, so I purchased a lucky bamboo. Does anyone have one or know anything about them? Are they as durable as they seem to be?

I love plants but not very good with them, so we will see how this goes.
I have one that I have had for about 4 years , they are easy to keep , the luck I am not too sure about , but the plant is fun to watch as it grows !!

Good, I wondered about it growing because it has little ties on it and I wonder if I should take those off.

Hee hee. Water them and give them plant food. If you're not good at remembering to water things (like me), get a cactus. I had one in Columbia. It was a tiny little thing.
My grandmother got lucky bamboo a loooooong time ago. She still has it so I guess it's pretty durable.

my roommate in college had a pretty cool looking one. it was braided and planted in rocks, not soil. because of this it had to be watered everyday. but she still has it and got it in 2005.

My thumb is not at all "green", so I stay away from living plants. Giving me a plant would be terrible for the poor plant. You'd have to come up with a group called "plant abusers" and I'd be the 1st criminal! hehe...

Well I already made mistake number 1 and gave it tap water and it's very sensitive to caffeine.

That's good news! I was reading over this thread and saw where you were using tap water on it and it was hurting the plant. I actually heard something on TV yesterday about people watering their plants with bottled water instead of tap because of the chlorine, but then the talk show host said that filtered water (like the kind you can get from your fridge) can also be used. I couldn't imagine buying bottled water simply to water a plant.

I like my plants but not enough to buy them their own water.:lol:I have given them filtered water from the fridge before but usually I still use tap water but the lucky bamboo seems to have gotten use to it.
