Gamecocks add junior forward Anthony Gill
Class of 2011 power forward Anthony Gill gave South Carolina a verbal commitment on Tuesday, ESPN.com's Gamecock affiliate www.TheBigSpur.com (http://www.TheBigSpur.com) has confirmed.
The 6-foot-8 Gill made his decision following an unofficial visit last weekend. He chose USC over Virginia Tech, Richmond and Liberty among others.

ESPN Evaluation:
July, 2009: Anthony Gill is a mobile and versatile forward. Offensively, he does a great job of establishing his position in the post. He seals his man, shows a great target and moves his feet well to catch the ball in the center of his body. He has good skills with his back to the basket moves. Using his great footwork in the post allows him to beat more athletic players who guard him. He is relentless on the glass and not afraid to play through pain (broken nose and injured wrist). Gill can finish around the goal with contact. He plays with good intelligence on both ends of the floor, using good position on defense to make up for what he make lack in athleticism against better wing players.

ESPN Evaluation:
He grades out at a 90 on ESPN. Hopefully he can gain 2 inches. Way to go Horn, and welcome aboard Gill

It would be great if he grew an inch or two more

He is only a Junior so its possible he grows another inch .. Once we get him into a college weight program, he could end up being another Mike Holmes.
It will be interesting to see how he does this season and how he does on the Summer circuit next year.

I like this pickup alot. If he can put on another inch or two I'll like it more but even as is he sounds like a very good player. Tough, smart, and versitile is a very good combination to have for any player.

He is also an inch taller than mike right now. I could see this guy going up to 6-9 maybe 6-10

Watch this kid's recruting blow up next year. His versatility is so impressive. Horn is getting guys who are not heavily recruited at first and has the inside track to players whose recruiting stock goes way up their senior year. Example Bruce Ellington.

Being from the state of NC I am wondering if he knows Quincy Miller and Duece Bello? Maybe the same travel team? I haven't had time to look all of that up

The USC basketball team landed a commitment earlier this week from 6-8 junior Anthony Gill of Charlotte Christian, and his coach says the Gamecocks have landed a very solid prospect. "First of all, he has a great, strong Christian character," Shonn Brown said. "He's highly skilled. He finishes well around the basket. He can play on the perimeter. He slashes to the basket and handles the ball well. He's always looking at something to improve on. He still may grow some. He can get stronger. He's aggressive but needs to be extremely aggressive. He needs to work on that. He has a second go to move. He has a nice jump hook." Gill averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds per game last season. He had been to USC in the summer and was back for an unofficial visit last weekend. After that, he decided to make his commitment. "We had a lot of people come down and look at him this summer," Brown said. "Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia Tech. He felt really good about the (USC) coaching staff. He found a peace with what they can offer as a student and an athlete." Brown said Gill is very solid with his pledge. The Charlotte Christian team will be in Columbia over the Christmas holiday to play in the Chic-Fil-A Classic at Richland Northeast.

Just talked to my brother, he has a friend in the recruiting business who said Anthony is an absolute baller. No details or anything but I just thought I'd share an opinion from a friend in the business.

Scout.com recently updated their ratings and rankings. Gill is rated a 4 star and ranked the number 15 Power Forward in the nation.
If Horn can bring in Damien Leonard to go with Gill and Murphey Holloway, such an incoming group in 2011 will put us on our way back to the glory days of Big Frank McGuire, in my opinion. Kentucky and John Calaperi better watch out.

Ummm got to watch for about 10 minutes but....WOOOOOOW is all i can say! His team got beat but he def didnt! By far the best player on the floor! Runs like a small forward but dominates like a true PF. Very impressed here. I saw at least 4 nasty blocks! Took a sure dunk and put a guy on his back! I caught myself laughing! Guys if we get Leonard with this class...the next three yrs are going to be sweet!
