Alright guys, I confess! I never intended our little April Fools Day joke to blow up like it did, but I guess that is what makes a great practical joke! Over 3000 people read this thread started by cack5: http://www.cockytalk.com/showthread.php?t=9878. The parody press release hit just about every Gamecock site on the Internet. We had an online petition started, and people even called the President's office (which I feel extremely bad about by the way).

I sincerely apologize! And I hope everyone realizes it was all in fun!

I even put a hint in the press release that I swore someone would pick up on. Look at the first letter of each paragraph! Over 3000 views and no one noticed it.

Two positive things from all this: 1) Read the press release. It flat out proves just how absurd it is that we would ever change our name. As I stated above, we are THE Gamecocks and we always will be. 2) You all have one year to figure out how to get revenge!

My job was easy. When I saw the thread start to ask questions about the validity of the fax, I just fanned the flames a little. I do have a friend that gives me some tidbits of information now and then, but he doesn't know I used him the past few days to pump up the volumn.

I got in on the joke right before Chuck decided to release it. It was a great Idea, and I was hoping to hear about it on the local radio. Nice Work Chuck, and thanks guys for taking so well. Actually, it was Spur and Khosk's idea. Spur said let's do a joke for April Fools. My first response was to shut down the board and pretend we folded up tent, but that is old kind of like the hat trick for recruits. Khosk came up with the PETA idea. Great job guys.
