When I was younger, I mainly listened to Elvis' rock songs. Lately, I've been into his country and gospel recordings. He really transcends all genres. Elvis singing a country song has more blues in it than anything. His recordings from 72 on are really amazing because he had the Sweet Inspirations, one of the best R&B/Soul groups, and the Stamps Quartet, one of the best Southern gospel groups ever, backing him. With the Sweets hitting the high notes and JD Sumners with his booming bass, the recordings are amazing. Beyond having an amazing voice and range, Elvis would do his own arrangements and change the instrumentation. Listen to how this S&G song sounds with Elvis singing it with his orchestra.

I'm ashamed to admit, but I can't even name a Jimi Hendrix song. If I had looked at the album cover instead of just listening to it, I might have figured out it was Hendrix and avoided looking stupid. Usually I listen to country, classic/Southern rock, and Elvis of course. You've inspired me to try to broaden my musical tastes. Thanks, GH.
