I was in a meeting this afternoon and almost every procedure that needed changing before April 24th was owned by me.. looks like a lot of 6 day weeks for me... but I know it's NOTHING like what you are juggling right now!

wow, that is strange failure mode. Normally you would expect trash in the oil to cause ring damage but not from the exhaust. Good work!

be sure to report it on-line... geez for the life of me I can't recall the fed agency that tracks these failures. If they get enough reports, they could force a fix and a recall. So even if they won't pay up now you could get your $$$ back in the future. Plus others may have had this same failure and didn't put forth the effort you did to figure out the problem.

You fight for everything you can get. You work hard for that $$$ so no need to just toss it away. I know just enough about cars to prevent the vast majority of rip-offs. I would refuse to deal with any mechanic that started a conversation, now girlie....

I once had a rear seal leak on a 200SX and these clowns told me it would take $900 to fix - in 1983. I asked them why and they said that they had to pull the engine, replace the motor mounts, and then the $100 rear seal. What they didn't know that I had already been under the car and figured out that all you had to do was undo 4 bolts, drop the transmission, and pop in a new $13 seal.

I went to 2nd mechanic for an estimate. He told me repairs would be well under $100 then told me he would fix it the same way I had already figured out (I had told him nothing). Never had a problem with the guy's work and used him for years after that.

Ummm... probably a couple of weeks unfortunately. It's an engine rebuild, so it's very time consuming. Plus I haven't coughed up all the money either. I'm not jumping into it and am trying to fight for every discount I can get. The ravenous research I've done to find the problem and label it a manufacturer's defect should pay off thankfully! Understanding cars has it's upside!
