They are really something that unites all CU alumni. I remember Caroline (Johnson) saying when they moved to Auburn one of the neighbors had one on her car. It was an automatic connection for them.

I'm not sure how long they've been around, but my BFF has one with 95 on it. I've even seen some with 60s and 70s years on them (that I'm certain were made after the fact).

USC pretty much has a standard ring now. Only choices have to do with color.

Hi all.

I rarely post here, but a friend of mine forwarded me this link. I had this same idea a few years back and happen to cut vinyl decals on the side. This is a design that I came up with to mimic the Clemson alumni design being discussed here:

Obviously it's not perfect, but you may have seen a few of them on vehicles around town. The biggest problem is the palmetto tree: it's very tough to cut the one from the "university gates" logo unless the decal is fairly large in size. The Clemson decals are no more than about 4" tall, and cutting the gates logo is super tough (especially the gates themselves). For this same reason, the seal of the university (what's on our ring) is all but impossible with all the little details and the letters being so small.

I have a few other palmetto trees, too. Take a look at let me know what y'all think. If any of you want a decal made, please PM me.

I started at Carolina in 2001. We've had a standard ring since that time, likely before then.

Yeah, I think it was standardised around 97.

my wife's 2000 ring is not the new "standardized" ring. So I am gonna say 2001.

There was an official ring adopted in 1999 but others were still available through the school. Now there is no option it is just the one. Hers is onyx with the seal engraved on it with the degree on one side and the year on other side.

Right, she probably sought out a cheaper option. I did that in high school, too.

Here is my take on a design that would work:

She has really little fingers. think she wanted something smaller. Idk about pricing I wasn't in the picture then.

ColaCock's design is really nice, but the thing about Clemson's is that it's monochrome. Multiple colors adds complexity and either requires a very high-end cutter to produce or a vinyl printer (think bumper stickers). Again, unless that was made a pretty fair size, it would be super tough to weed the details out, and especially that thin inner oval.

It would be pretty easy to make a monochrome version of Cola's though.

That's a lot of fine detail to weed on a 4-6 in tall sticker...when you get that fine they tend to be easier to tear when weeding too. Winds up being a lot of time involved with little profit doing them with a vinyl cutter. Especially when a similar sized sticker prob sells for what 5-6 bucks at Walmart?
