I listened to this all the way through last night. Does anyone actually like this stuff? Yeesh.

It was torture. I know I'm supposed to like it, cause it's a classic and all that, but it was flat-out annoying in places. How anyone could listen to it even once was a miracle.

The story goes, everyone who was wrapped up in the making of that album was completely controlled (emotionally, physically) by Van Vliet. He basically wouldn't let them leave the studio for months and harassed and gave out verbal beat-downs to everyone. He wouldn't feed them anything but beans for a month and trashed them to their faces until they had nervous breakdowns. It sounds like it, when you listen to it.

This was definitely music that was caused by people who were all having nervous breakdowns.

It's bad.

True story. The only reason I listened is because "they" say its good, but yea I totally agree with you

Beefheart was actually peeved with Zappas' production on this masterpiece.I think it's a great work of art.Howlin' Wolf meets Dali.

They actually recorded the whole thing in 6 days.

What sounds like improvisation isn't, it was all tightly scripted.
