They are trying to screw him out of 4 plus million. He lined up in the 56% of the time in the slot and out wide on top of that. He should get wr not te designation. That is some bs on the titans part

Never will forget the picture of him riding his scooter around town.

Sure is a different world now....he's a professional businessman trying to get what's due. Wish him the absolute best....he's always been a good guy.

no, he is a football player. he is playing a game that has been sold to the fans as a "business" by the people who profit from said business.

I doubt any player getting hit with the franchise tag thinks it's awesome.

Jared Cook won't get Tennessee Titans' franchise tag

Quote:

In the end, the Tennessee Titans decided it didn't matter whether they classified Jared Cook as a tight end or wide receiver in regards to the franchise tag. They decided not to tag Cook at all.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean first reported Monday that Cook will not get the franchise tag. That comes as a surprise because Cook's agent was gearing up for a fight about Cook's position. The Titans reportedly didn't want to fight the issue through an arbitrator.
A Titans source told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport Monday that the team will not use the franchise tag on any player this year.
Consider this a short-term win for Cook. He gets a chance to hit the open market and pick his new team. Then again, it's fair to wonder how much guaranteed money Cook will get on the open market. He's probably not going to average more than the franchise number for tight ends, but he should wind up with more guaranteed money. Former Titans coach Jeff Fisher, now coach of the St. Louis Rams, could go after Cook.

you don't think the NFL is a business, and that its not a career for the players?

you think this is just a hobby to them?

I think of each individual player as its own business that has a very limited amount of time to sell its wares to only 32 potential customers.

They need to get what they can get while they can get it.

F**k the Titans. I hope Cook gets all their money or gets out of that team. He's so underutilized for what he's capable of.

I've read that it's actually 70% if you count all his snaps lined up in slot and out wide. Playing as traditional TE only 30% of the time at most gives him a solid case for not being a TE technically.

I've never been a big TEN fan but Fisher and his leftovers there really have squandered Jared Cook's talent so now I just resent them as a franchise. See, Jared will come off sounding like a greedy, show me the money, selfish player because most will point to underwhelming stats and say he doesn't deserve it.

However, his reception per target percentage is on par with the best TE's in the game right now so it really is simply a matter of this team (and the quarterbacks) simply not giving him the opportunities. Matt Hasselbeck has stunted many a talented TE over the years and Vince Young couldn't locate the TE on a play drawn up on the white board.

I'm glad Jared's at least going to get a good chunk of pay for the tag but it does keep him stuck in an offense that has no clue how to utilize him. Here again they're saying they're going to get Cook more involved in the offense next year - they've said this same thing the past two years with absolutely nothing changing on the field in terms of targets or creating mismatches with him whenever and wherever they want.....it's sheer frustration watching them on offense under Chris Palmer. That dood has about as much business being on OC as Matt Hasselbeck has being a QB in the NFL. Hass was serviceable at one point but now he's just that old veteran who can't get it done but doesn't know when to quit...Trent Dilfer would probably be as effective.

Im a huge Titans fan so I hate this situation. Its time to cut ties. Titans don't have a capable QB or offense for that matter. This will be unpopular but Jared just isn't that good. Titans traded up into the 2nd round to get him and it wasn't worth it. Cook doesn't deserve WR franchise tag money nor should he be qualified to get it.

What are the odds the falcons go after him if Tony Gonzalez decides to actually retire and not come back.
