Demetris Summer High School Highlights
Came across these for the first time today. I know most people couldn't care less about this guy now but its still pretty interesting to see what could've been. He was a special talent.

Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
I was at the North Augusta-Lexington game in 2001 when Clemson-grad Reggie Merriweather outrushed Summers 406-301 and scored six touchdowns to Meat's four. Unbelievable game to witness...

Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
I graduated a year after him at Lexington and he was amazing to watch, he was a good guy but had a poor work ethic, never lifted in high school when the rest of the team did but he could just walk up to a bench and rep what a lot of the o-line guys were maxing! Absolute beast! He was always in trouble at Carolina though, missing classes, not making grades, and failing drug tests, he could've been great though. He tried out for the cowboys after being kicked off the team but got cut for missing mandatory meetings, I think he's still floating around the CFL. I think he and Cory Boyd were on the same team at one point, meat was more of a return guy then

Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
I actually went to watch him play in high school. He was the most gifted HS athlete I ever say play in person.
That being said, I could tell when a play was going to go to him or not simply by the way he lined up and the stance he took. He also showed zero interest in blocking. If a play didn't go to him he just took two steps back and stood around until next play. Many of the signs of his demise were right there for people to see, most just chose to ignore them. |
Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
He was soooooo good, just like Derek Watson. Why oh why have these blue chip studs failed so hard with us? <looking at you Lou>

Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
i think Kris Clark from lexington who the recruited to get to Summers actually ended up contributing more in the long run ... not a long of plays but good down field blocking and just a good guy overall... funny how those things work out

Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
Lol I was a fresham linebacker/ RB for South Aiken at the time of that highlight. Thank god I didnt get called up to varsity the game after the lexington game. I think he ran for 5something against us that night

SOS has been able to coach his way away from most of the high risk recruits. This is likely one reason our recruit rankings aren't as high as some wish....we likely don't target certain high profile players that we might could get because of character issues that cause the coaches to pass. |
Re: Demetris Summer High School Highlights
Reminded me of a young Ladanian Tomlinson there. Pretty cool to see him taking direct snaps from shotgun too. That highschool coach was definitely seeing the evolution of the spread offense around that time I think was when Rich rod was at clemson doing some of that stuff with dantzler.
It's so funny watching these undersized highschool players though.. Wow. Look at #8 at 2:13. He can't be anymore than 5'5, 120 and they got him back there at safety. Even if that kid was in position to make a play, Summers would have run over him like a truck. He sort just jogs like he's chasing summers knowing he would have never made that tackle. People at Dorman would say trying to tackle Marcus was like trying to tackle a brick wall coming at you full speed. |

I'd take Cory Boyd over summers anyday though. Guy had some great runs/games. |
