SC QB - Best one two punch in the nation, ESPN

http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/b...c&id=60987&wjb

"One of the other interesting storylines this spring involving quarterbacks is at South Carolina, where Dylan Thompson will get the first-team work with Connor Shaw rehabilitating his surgically repaired left foot.

"Nobody in the SEC has a better one-two punch at quarterback than the Gamecocks with Shaw and Thompson."

Somebody on here asked me to post when there was a national article mentioning Thompson in other than a religious context. Here is it.

Kudos to both Shaw and Thompson, the dynamic duo!

Your title is slightly misleading, but you correctly quote the duo by ESPN in your post.

There is only one sentence in that story talking about the QB's. I read your title thinking the whole article was dedicated to them.

Descent read though.

Is the best 1-2 combo really something to boast about?

Yes, it is good to have a solid backup, but no team really wants a rotation at the QB position.

Yep.

Ask any team who has had their starting QB injured.

I think a SEC coach in the recent past won big games with alternating qb's...Oh yeah it was Spurrier.

Thompson is still an unproven commodity to me....you can't cut your teeth on Clemson and mop up time and expect the next year to be slinging it against Florida and Georgia.

Wow. This is an incredibly asinine statement. The W over Clemson @ Clemson was a huge win over a great team (they beat LSU in their bowl game). Getting thrown into the lions den down a score very late in the fourth qaurter in Tampa with the game on the line, and throwing a dime to Ellington (maybe one of the greatest pass plays in Carolina history besides the famous "I can throw the fade" play) and he hasn't shown you enough?? :-|

He also helped us rally against Michigan in the Outback Bowl too. Clemson wasn't the only game where her performed well.

I agree with Low. Nobody has 2 QB's at the level we have ours right now.

Correct. Unfortunately, several people didn't read your whole post. We are fortunate to have two good ones whose talents compliment each other....one is a better runner, one is a better passer.

Re: SC QB - Best one two punch in the nation, ESPN

Not trying to be a jerk, but we really don't know if these are the best 2 deep qbs because the majority of teams didn't have to play their backups in big situations or for multiple games because their starter didn't get injured.

It's nice to have game knowledge that our backup is good, but can you confidently say the backups from bama are not better? Even though they physically assaulted essentially everyone on their schedule, the back ups combined threw 14 passes.

I thank God the internet wasn't around in 1984 or my memories of Hold and Mitchell would be sullied by the constant bitching about which one was better.

No. It's really not assinine. He hasn't shown enough for people to assume that he is Joe Montana like so many on here have. He put up 27 against a terrible Clemson defense and performed well in spot duty against a Michigan secondary that was extremely depleted. He has performed well, but he still has not done anything against a GOOD defense. There are still question marks surrounding this guy. I like what I have seen thus far though and I hope that he continues to show out when he is called on in conference games.

Its not just a top 1-2 combo it is that each of these guys alone is one of the top qb's in the conference its almost like a UF team back in the 90's. Wonder how that happened? Let's do this; name the QBs in the conference you would take ahead of whichever one of our QB's you think is the backup and no need to name who you think the backup is. I'll say:

1) Johnny foolsball
2) AJ McCarron? I might but probably not
3) Aaron muray? I wouldn't
...ummm

Here's a post from a gatorfan on an SDS article ranking the qb's in the SEC heading into spring ball:

"Ironically, as little as we’ve seen from Dylan Thompson, he’s a star. Great looking player. Spurrier has 2 QBs better than half of the team has one. Go figure."

I certainly wasn't trying to mislead anyone. Of course I didn't mean the entire article was about them, but I thought it was interesting.

What would you have entitled the thread to make it less misleading?
