Last ACC basketball player to lead the nation in scoring?
Watching the Virginia tech-duke game they asked who the last ACC player to lead the nation was, the answer was a 1956-57 GAMECOCK who edged out Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor with a 31.2 ppg avg, Grady Wallace. Some how he was only a 2nd team all American and never played in the NBA after lasting to the 5th rd of the NBA draft? Can anyone educate me more on Mr. Wallace and thank you.

http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...pg=859,2312529 I did some more googling and found that 1975 P&C article. It is a really good article about him. It talks about how he turned down the Celtics because the money in the NBA wasn't that much back then and how he didn't want to play basketball for a job because it would suck the fun out of it. He later became head of the SC Parole Board. Thanks for posting this thread, qcgamecock. It is great hearing about Gamecock legends. It is amazing how many of his records still stand. |

Funny, Snoopcock was talking about the players of today compared to the players of yesterday in a thread about kids leaving early to play pro ball and though I disagreed with him this embellishes his point and shows how money has changed the game. |

Did not realize that we have had two that led the nation in scoring , the other being Zam Fredrick 1980-81 season.
