"Beer Googles" is a Myth According to Study

Huff Po – You’re going to have to come up with a better excuse for sleeping with that person whom you wish you’d never met. It seems that the old “beer goggles” excuse just won’t work.

A new study by the U.K.’s Durham University questions the long-held belief that alcohol consumption makes a person drop their standards as to whom they’d drop their drawers for. Study author psychologist Dr. Amanda Ellison said that alcohol doesn’t make people look more attractive, it just increases their level of lust.

“There is no imagined physical transformation, just more desire,” Allison said, according to MSNnow.com. “Alcohol switches off the rational and decision-making areas of the brain while leaving the areas to do with sexual desire relatively intact.” Ellison said it is a fluke of nature that the lust section of the brain –- the oldest part -– still functions after consumption of alcohol, the Metro reported.

I never thought a person looked better, but alcohol certainly made me not give a rip what the girl looked like. That's what beer goggles are, not an altered visual experience but a WTF?! attitude.

Yea, people took the term 'beer goggles' too literally. I think everyone knew it was actually your standards that drop?

When cops get into a scuffle with someone that has consumed too much alcohol, they call that liquid courage.

Maybe consuming too much alcohol and then sleeping with whatever breathes is liquid desperation

Reminds me of a song by Stephen Lynch

Rodney Carrington summed it up nicely in his country version of "Kiss" by Prince:

Quote:

You don't have to be beautiful to turn me on.
I've been drinking, and I'm taking your big ass home.

Yeah I'll agree with that. Now if you want your mind altered, well that is another thread altogether.
